Lifeguard Instructor
Position Title: Lifeguard Instructor
Department: DPW / Recreation
Employment Status: Chapter 7 Ordinance, Non-Exempt; Full-Time (Seasonal)
Salary: $19.00 per hour
Certifications/Licenses: MA Driver's License Class D Preferred; Certifications in Adult/Pediatric First Aid & C.P.R./A.E.D.; Certification for Lifeguard Training (Required)
SUMMARY
The City of Chicopee's Department of Public Works / Recreation Division is hiring a Lifeguard Instructor whose duties at a pool location may include Lifeguarding of pool, written maintenance logs, participation in-service training and working with the public. Individuals are also responsible for general maintenance of the pool or park. Assist with learn to swim program.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES INCLUDE
Follows weekly life guarding schedule for the main pool.
Maintains the appearance and safety of the pool and all its surrounding areas.
In proper uniform, attentive, using rescue equipment, and at proper lifeguard station while on duty.
Enforces all rules and regulations regarding staff and patrons while on duty.
Assures the safety of all patrons.
Assist in daily learn to swim program as assigned by the Instructor Guard.
Other duties as assigned per the full job description.
QUALIFICATIONS
To be minimally qualified for this position, one must meet the following criteria:
High School diploma or equivalent or must have completed 11th Grade.
Age 16+
Six (6) months related experience in lifeguarding of pools or open water preferred.
General knowledge of pools, pool maintenance and customer service preferred.
Adult/Pediatric First Aid C.P.R./A.E.D. (Required)
Certification in Red Cross Lifeguard Training or Y.M.C.A. (Required)
MA Class D Driver?s License (Preferred) with Insurable Driving Record

This is a Seasonal Position, with both a varying schedule & hours up to 38 hours per week dependent upon pool operating hours. This position will begin on July 01, 2024, and go on through August 25, 2024.
This role is classified as Group 4, Section II, v. of the City of Chicopee's Chapter 7 Ordinance paying $19.00 per hour.
