Location/Division Specific Information

This position will be site based in Fair Lawn, NJ or Bridgewater NJ site, and will support our Laboratory Chemicals Division (LCD Operations) business unit of Thermo Fisher Scientific.

Champion the divisional controls and instrumentation improvement program; develop local site(s) teams capability to lead day to day autonomous tasks ensure systems are backed up, maintained and secure.

  • Adhering to regulatory and industry standards while designing and implementing electronic control systems
  • Implement an investment program to standardize and upgrade obsolete control systems
  • Use the management of Change (MOC) process ensuring safety, compliance and quality standards are upheld in all aspects of work.
  • Support site team with Process Improvement Projects (PPI) involving PLC control enhancements to streamline and optimize operations
  • Designing and developing electronic circuits and systems for specific applications and improvement projects.
  • Troubleshooting of electronic systems to ensure their accurate functionality and performance
  • Assist with control system routine maintenance activities, outstanding maintenance and capital projects ensuring that activities are completed to plan and budget.
  • Developing and maintaining documentation such as technical specifications, user manuals, training courses and project reports
  • Support manufacturing engineering early equipment asset management when installing new equipment and technologies, ensuring control systems are commissioned and maintained appropriately and cost effectively
  • Use the site(s) CMMS to monitor effective maintenance of controls and instrumentation equipment
  • Develop data loggers to automate and display live Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE)
  • Monthly reporting and reviews with manager regarding controls and instrumentation performance

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Strong communication skills to convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical partners
  • Experienced in working with multi-functional global teams and leading collaboratively to achieve business objectives
  • Demonstrates a self-motivated, proactive and enthusiastic approach
  • Capacity to think strategically and develop long-term Controls and Instrumentation improvement strategies aligned with business objectives
  • Ability to analyze complicated control and system problems, identifying root causes, and implementing efficient countermeasures
  • Effective oral and written communication skills; ability to effectively present complex topics in a concise manner.
  • Ability Design, develop, and troubleshoot PLC programs, ensuring optimal performance and reliability of control systems. Familiar with Rockwell, Allen Bradley, RSLogix, Siemens S7 systems.
  • Design, Develop and configure HMI screens.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics (Electrical and P&ID).
  • Ability to make timely and informed decisions based on data, analysis, and risk assessment
  • PC literate with a strong skill using Power BI, Databases, Outlook, and Excel
  • Strong attention to detail

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering
  • 5-7 years experience in Process and Control Engineering
  • Experience with electrical wiring and diagrams
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
