Description

This position may, from time to time, provide assistance to career education programs with area schools and organizations by helping HR to coordinate job shadowing and mentoring programs for students interested in healthcare careers as well as coordinating efforts to engage students and others interested in healthcare careers in meaningful volunteer work in the patient care setting.
This position also coordinates organizational and program needs for volunteers needed in the patient care setting and in support services. The volunteer engagement coordinator is responsible for recruitment, enrollment, training, and evaluation of all volunteers associated with the OMC Caring Partners Volunteer Services. The coordinator must develop and implement all department policies and procedures as they relate to volunteer services as well as provide yearly in-service training with Caring Partners volunteers to ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal standards and maintaining certifications for the volunteer program.
This position promotes and oversees all volunteer opportunities and works closely with the volunteer chairs and volunteer council to schedule volunteers for assigned work times, set organizational goals, and to finalize decisions related to Caring Partners Volunteer Services. The coordinator prepares all communications as they relate to volunteer services, develops goals and objectives for the volunteer services programs that support the mission of Olmsted Medical Center, and develops new services, as needed, to reflect hospital and volunteer services mission and goals.
This position is responsible for maintaining a positive image of the OMC Caring Partners Volunteers within the community and the healthcare system.

Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in health education, community education, or related field. Master's degree preferred
Minimum of five years in a similar position or related experience in health promotion, community outreach and volunteer coordination
Successful completion of pre-employment health screening
Knowledge of learning processes and application to health education curriculum
Project management skills and ability to prioritize assignments to meet organizational and departmental objectives
Skill in exercising initiative, judgment, and decision-making to achieve goals
Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with OMC employees and community partners; must be equally effective working independently or on a team
Effective communication skills and computer aptitude
Able to work independently and as a member of a team
Able to manage multiple projects and effectively prioritize tasks to meet established deadlines
Knowledge of Volgistics or other volunteer management software
Experience in recruiting, interviewing, and placing volunteers in a healthcare setting
Job Responsibilities:
Develops goals, makes recommendations, and implements plans for health promotion and community outreach efforts that are consistent with the strategic initiatives and mission of OMC.
Coordinates OMC's presence at health fairs and community events throughout the service area, working within Marketing and with other educators to staff events.
Supports OMC's marketing policies, procedures, and identity standards to ensure maximum benefit and exposure and consistency in message and look throughout the service area.
Provides assistance to OMC community benefit program activities as needed, including tracking employee engagement through paid or volunteer efforts in various community benefit and investment related activities, which may include employee activities, employee volunteer survey, etc.
Participates on various OMC and community committees and work groups as required by the position or as approved by the vice president for marketing and philanthropy.
Provides direct patient education, as needed and as qualified, for any disease-specific topics, in coordination with various OMC clinical departments and HR.
Provides support to OMC hospital's patient care services by enhancing the patient care experience through volunteer-supported patient care activities. Determines number and range of volunteers needed for particular projects.
Creates and updates job descriptions for all volunteer positions.
Manages volunteer recruitment and hiring process by advertising for available volunteer positions, interviewing candidates, and matching them with appropriate roles.
Prepares and presents orientation materials for new volunteers, including handbook and PowerPoint.
Creates and distributes information regarding volunteer policies and procedures.
Monitors volunteers during their appointments to retain or replace candidates.
Meets with volunteers to assess their progress and satisfaction, as well as to conduct performance evaluations or skills audits.
Cultivates a positive and supportive atmosphere by recognizing volunteer efforts and assisting volunteers with their own endeavors.
Manages communication among volunteers in order to share news, progress, and available positions.
Maintains a database of volunteers and projects and tracks metrics.
Presents updates and metrics to colleagues and executives in writing and presentations.
Promotes the organization, its volunteer efforts, and its accomplishments internally and externally.
Other duties as assigned.
