Troup County Government

Position: Facilities Maintenance Technician

Department: Maintenance

Salary: $19.13/Hr

Under general supervision and instruction this position performs technical duties in the maintenance, repair and custodial care of assigned buildings.

Qualifications/Knowledge:

  • High school diploma or GED, current valid driver's license
  • Must have 1 to 2 years experience in a related field
  • Knowledge of facilities maintenance principles and practices
  • Knowledge of plumbing, HVAC and electrical maintenance principles
  • Knowledge of carpentry and custodial maintenance principles
  • Must have industrial and commercial electrical knowledge
  • Must have organizational and time management skills
  • Must have stamina to deal with long hours of walking, standing, digging, climbing etc
  • Skill in planning and problem solving
  • Skill in reading and interpreting maps, drawings and specifications
  • Skill in the use of hand and power tools
  • Skill in interpersonal relations
  • Skill in oral and written communication

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs preventive maintenance on county buildings; inspects buildings to determine maintenance and repair needs; responds to after-hours emergencies
  • Performs heavy manual labor: digging, lifting, hauling etc; operates a variety of equipment, including a forklift, excavator, scissor lift and genie lift
  • Maintains plumbing systems; repairs or replaces fixtures, pipes and drainage systems; installs plumbing in new or remodeled buildings; troubleshoots industrial lighting systems to include ball fields, stadiums, pools, gyms etc
  • Maintains HVAC systems; repairs or replaces drain lines, filters and electrical components; troubleshoots electrical components; maintains and repairs electrical systems; replaces or repairs switches, receptacles and electrical controls
  • Assembles, disassembles, repairs and maintains furniture such as cubicles, desks, cabinets, tables, chairs, shelves and related fixtures; makes deliveries from vendors and supplies to other departments
  • Assists with carpentry and other maintenance repairs as needed; installs sheetrock and drop ceiling; adds and installs new data, phone and electrical line outlets, including wire pulls
  • Assists in coordinating the work of outside contractors
  • Assists with measures for pest control, inspection, test of fire and smoke systems; assists with elevator inspections with the local Fire Marshal and State D.O.L. Inspectors
  • Checks and responds to security issues, fire alarms, security controlled doors, gates etc
  • Assists with fire sprinkler inspection and test with local Fire Marshal and contractor; tests sprinkler systems, monitors, checks and resets fire extinguisher inspections and replacements
  • Works on commercial pool equipment and chemical feed systems; works on commercial kitchen equipment
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned
