Position Purpose:
Responsible for executing the overall short and long term strategy for assigned category/ categories. This includes, creating and maintaining vendor relationships, marketing products, developing product line strategies and reporting financial results. The Merchant makes all or most of the buying decisions for the assigned category and negotiates terms with suppliers to drive item selection and pricing.
Key Responsibilities:
- 30% – Maintain standards – Works with Merchants, Vendors, and HDI Branches to create and maintain standards for data and assets needed to support enterprise needs. Develops systems for monitoring root cause or product ordering deficiencies.
- 30% – Manager day- to-day operations – Monitors group and individual performance (accuracy, turnaround time, etc.) through various Merchandising reports. Takes the appropriate actions to ensure operational efficiency. Hires, coach, teach and train a team of Merchandising Specialists to identify and resolve vendor compliance issues and start-up of new vendors. Oversees and manages the day-to-day operation of merchandising ordering and data management as well as on-going maintenance of product development. This includes working with field teams to identify work flow needs, translating the needs and filtering, and effective internal and external communication. Optimizes diverse talent through a demonstrated commitment to equal employment opportunity.

- 10% – Vendor Relationships – Maintains appropriate vendor contract relationships in order to resolve field based challenges.
Direct Manager/Direct Reports:
- This position reports to the Merchandising Vice President or Divisional Merchandise Manager
- This position has 1-2 direct reports
Travel Requirements:
- Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.
Physical Requirements:
- Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions, there may be a need to move or lift light articles.
Working Conditions:
- Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.
Preferred Qualifications:
- The knowledge and application of theories and principles of a discipline: examples include financial analysis, operations management, and marketing.
- The ability to provide in-depth merchandising expertise to the Home Depot Interiors organization.
Minimum Education:
- The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a high school diploma and/or GED.
Preferred Education:
- The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job.

Hybrid – An associate in a hybrid role blends in-office and remote/virtual working to complete their job duties. An associate may be required to work from a designated Home Depot location on some days, and may work from a virtual/remote location on others. We also refer to this as location – flex.
