Organization Description:
Vecinos is a non-profit, 501(c)3 Free Clinic that provides bilingual integrated primary and mental health care, mobile clinic services, health education, and case management to uninsured, low-income adults in the far-western NC counties. We offer a positive, supportive, and team-oriented atmosphere. We work in a non-traditional environment with limited resources. Schedules and hours vary throughout the year.
Purpose:
The Medical Assistant works under the medical supervision of the Medical Provider and reports directly to the Site Coordinator, to provide direct patient assistance within the clinic setting.
Job Responsibilities
- Prepare patients for visits with the medical providers by performing patient intakes, vital signs, screenings and health history questionnaires and Epion integration
- Prepare for clinic nights, ensuring needed medical supplies are well-stocked
- Assist as needed with in-office procedures, including EKGs, pap smears and biopsies
- Perform point of care testing and phlebotomy as needed with complete documentation
- Assist with vaccinations, including documentation in the NCIR
- Manage clinical inbox for all medical providers
- Complete internal referrals to other teams (nutrition, mental health, social work, etc.)
- Prepare prescription refill authorizations
- Schedule appointments for in-clinic and telehealth visits
- Support referrals coordination and obtaining medical records prior to scheduled appointments
- Schedule specialist appointments as needed
- Liaison with outreach team to ensure transportation and interpretation needs are met
- Complete reminder calls for in-clinic and telehealth appointments
- Assist in disbursement and tracking of health management tools including glucometers and blood pressure cuffs
- Active participation in weekly team meetings and team development
- Medical interpretation as needed
Required Qualifications
- Native, or near-native English/Spanish fluency
- Experience working in a primary care setting as a Medical Assistant
- Previous experience working in electronic health records, check-in systems, inventory systems, etc.
- Able to work effectively as a team member and work closely with nurses, physicians, community health workers, and other clinic staff
- Cultural sensitivity, a caring and confident demeanor, flexibility, dependability, excellent written and verbal communication skills, a professional attitude, desire to serve uninsured/underserved populations
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified medical assistant certification in the state of North Carolina and maintenance of appropriate certifications. Applicants who are working towards certification will be considered.
- Experience in an integrated (primary and mental health) care setting
- Working knowledge of farmworker-specific medicine
- Medical interpreter training and/or experience
