Since 1969, the Northwest Alabama Mental Health Center has grown in its ability to provide services to the mentally ill, those with intellectual disabilities, and persons suffering from chemical dependency in the five-county area. In this 5-county area, no one is to be more than 20 minutes away from services. The Center prides itself on the quality of its services and its well-developed continuum of care. There is a heavy emphasis on services for children, families, and geriatric age groups, as well as the seriously mentally ill, those with intellectual disabilities, and those suffering from chemical dependency.
The Northwest Alabama Mental Health Center is a public, non-profit corporation that is governed by a board of directors from Fayette, Lamar, Marion, Walker, and Winston counties. The Center contracts with the Alabama Department of Mental Health, other government units of the state, county and local governments, and industry to provide a wide range of services.
