Position Summary
The Department of Materials Design & Innovation (MDI) seeks applicants for a tenure track faculty position in Personalized Health and Wellness to join a core group of five faculty across multiple departments. Successful candidates will have expertise in molecular design, especially in computational/informatics techniques for the next generation engineering systems based on organic/biological molecules that impact technologies ranging from biosensors to implants and drug delivery systems. This initiative will leverage MDI’s leadership in materials informatics, the BioXFEL STC program and MDI’s close collaborations with numerous departments including the School of Medicine.

We are looking for candidates to join a dynamic, interdisciplinary faculty team operating at the convergence of materials science and information science. Successful candidates are expected to work effectively in a novel team environment and integrate well into MDI’s innovative teaching and research program. The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses at the graduate and undergraduate levels, mentor graduate students, advise students at all levels and maintain an active research program. MDI offers BS, MS and PhD degrees in materials science and engineering as well as an accelerated BS-Chemistry/MS-MDI degree in partnership with the Chemistry Department at UB.

Minimum Qualifications
  • A doctoral degree in Materials Science or related fields is required, or verified completion of all requirements for conferral prior to the start date.
  • Candidates for an Associate Professor or Full Professor position should have a strong record of scholarly accomplishments, teaching experience and bring and maintain a sustained externally funded research program.
