Summary:

Mortenson is currently seeking an experienced Lean Manager IIto join our Power Delivery Solutions Group to Coach and develop capability in field and project leaders so they can confidently and effectively apply the elements of that approach-whether 5S, Flow Construction, Mortenson's kaizen-based continuous improvement approach or all the above-to make work safer and easier and improve project outcomes.
Locations: Minneapolis, Kansas City, San Antonio, Denver, Dallas
Required Travel: 50-75%
Responsibilities:
Create strong partnerships with project leadership and craft workforce to establish trust and gain buy-in for lean approaches.
Effectively work and build relationships with those of diverse backgrounds and organizational levels.
Lead team members by example, putting continuous effort to developing greater understanding and ability to coach team members in applying Mortenson's continuous improvement approach.
Promote continuous improvement principles onsite:
Act as a key resource for identifying opportunities, planning, and executing the continuous improvement approach for the project and in the field for self-perform work.
Support group and project leaders in preparing for, conducting, and following up on improvement events.
Actively engage with field leaders to build their capability in utilizing the Kaizen continuous improvement approach after improvement events.
Reinforce continuous improvement principles and ensure ongoing application of essential tools after improvement events.
Measure baseline performance and improvements, ensuring continuous visibility into improvements across projects and tasks.
Ensure teams are sharing work process improvements across crews and projects and updating standardized work documentation to support this effort.
Collaborate with group leaders to acknowledge and recognize crews and teams for their contributions to improvements.
Develop and implement 'Production Preparation Process' for new scopes of work.
Create and teach group-wide standards for identifying normal vs. abnormal conditions, recognizing, and signaling abnormal conditions when they arise, and responding appropriately.
Collaborate with forepersons to actively encourage crews to brainstorm and implement improvements on an ongoing basis.
Support the lead project Superintendent to champion 5S practices with the project team, field leaders, and trade partners:
Partner with project team and the lead superintendent to develop, communicate, and reinforce jobsite 5S standards.
Support the team's communication of 5S standards through onboarding of new craft workforce and trade partners.
Support the team's plans and follow-through to achieve 5S standards.
Act as an advocate for the Group to advance Flow Construction (takt planning) on projects:
Collaborate with group and company experts to evaluate opportunities for Flow Construction and support project teams in developing flow schedules for work phases.
Provide support to lead project superintendents in developing and effectively communicating disciplined and consistent strategic planning, phase planning, and lookahead planning approaches.
Support superintendents and forepersons to apply disciplined and consistent daily planning, work management, and learning approaches.
Promote and maintain continuous efforts towards one-piece flow for self-perform work and move away from batching practices.
Support targeted improvements and innovation for transmission, distribution and other electrical infrastructure projects
Qualifications:
Expert understanding of continuous improvement principles and how they apply to different work processes and environments.
Excellent reliability and follow through on commitments.
Effective trainer and facilitator
Strong ability to coach and mentor lean professionals in their role.
Ability to influence through relationship building.
Proactive self-starter with a growth mindset
Strong sense of curiosity and optimism
Effectively work with those of diverse backgrounds and organizational levels
Active listening skills and effective communication including an openness to diverse input and feedback.
Preferred:
Electrical background/experience including electrician, lineman, journeyman, EE.
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Construction Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or other science or mathematical related degree, or equivalent combination of education and technical/field experience demonstrated over multiple years of related work experience
Minimum of six years' construction or manufacturing experience
Minimum of four years' applying continuous improvement in manufacturing or construction environments or in related fields
Current driver's license
Ability to travel up to 75%
