SCHEDULE

Regular Full-Time Position (Day)
Must be available Monday through Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm, Flexible to cover Sunday 6:30am to 12:30pm, Monday 5:30am to 6:30pm, Tuesday to Friday 8:00am to 6:30pm, Saturday 7:00am - 4:00pm.

Must be flexible with schedule changes to meet operational needs.

HIRING RANGE

$22.19 to $27.69 hourly

Actual pay commensurate with experience

JOB SUMMARY

Performs the day-to-day supervision of staff and routine operations for assigned area, under the direction of the manager. Assists manager with activities to support the company mission, vision, and strategic goals.  Represents management and the company.
 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists manager to ensure operations of assigned area(s) meet company requirements and customer service goals.
  • Assists manger in setting departmental standards of quality, productivity, performance and developing and implementing monitoring systems, as assigned.
  • Conducts Check Rides
  • Conducts annual competency assessments on Couriers I and II.  Develops and revises checklists as directed.
  • Performs scheduling and work assignments according to operational requirements.
  • Participates in preparation and updating of procedures and other departmental manuals.
  • Communicates relevant information to team members, manager, and other appropriate people in a timely manner.
  • Investigates and addresses incidents involving patients, employees, clients, and/or visitors.
  • Handling situations using appropriate company policy or procedure.
  • Consults manager or other appropriate resource
  • Ensures the proper and efficient use of supplies and equipment
  • Develops, promotes, and maintains a positive work climate and effective working relationships.
  • Assists manager to ensure assigned area(s) meet state, federal, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Assists in implementing plans with scope of responsbility to meet organization's strategy.
  • Participates in hiring, training, developing and appraising staff and makes recommendations as appropriate.
  • Takes corrective action as necessary on a timely basis in accordance with company policy.
  • Consults with manager and Human Resources as appropriate.
  • Keeps abreast of changes in industry, makes recommendations and assists with implementation of new or revised procedures,
  • Provides input and support for the development and implementation of improvements
  • Participates, leads, and facilitates meetings and teams.
  • Performs duties of Courier I/II as needed.
  • Assists the Sr. Dispatcher, Sr. Fleet Operations, and Manager as needed.
  • Prepares reports and other documents for manager and other relevant people, as assigned.
  • Assists internal and external customers with questions, concerns, problems, etc.
  • Identifies and analyzes problems; makes decisions and takes appropriate action(s)
  • Ensures working environment that provides maximum safety and health and encourages safety awareness among employees.
  • Reports unsafe work conditions, injuries/illnesses, and incidents in a timely and proper manner.
  • Participates in continuing education/in-service programs and in management and laboratory administration related courses.
  • Models the behaviors consistent with the mission, vision and shared values of the organization.
  • Maintains attendance as scheduled/assigned, consistent with DLS policies and procedures.
  • Maintains confidentiality of information in accordance with company policies and procedures
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

JOB DEMANDS

Communication Demands:
1.  Able to read, analyze and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations, as appropriate..
2.  Able to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.
3.  Able to speak effectively before groups of internal and external customers.

Typical Physical Demands:

  • Moderate physical activity performing somewhat strenuous daily activities. Requires fine manipulations, simple grasping and firm grasping. Requires clear vision at 20 inches or less and 20 feet or more, peripheral vision and depth perception. Requires hearing and talking up to 8 hours on a continual basis. Performs the following activities on a continual or intermittent basis:
  •      Walking up to 6 hours
  •      Driving up to 6 hours
  •      Sitting up to 4 hours
  •      Standing up to 2 hours
  •      Climbing stairs up to 2 hours
  •      Typing/keying up to 2 hours
  •      Getting in and out of vehicle up to 2 hours
  •      Bending up to 1 hour
  •      Requires lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling items weighing up to 35 pounds on a frequent basis.


Typical Working Conditions:

  • Work environment includes conditions common to a hospital/laboratory environment; including working in the general vicinity of biohazardous materials, potentially hazardous chemicals and patients with communicable diseases.
  • Some work performed in an outdoor environment that will expose the employee to various climate conditions.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years courier experience.
  • One year driving experience with DLS. (Nice to have).


Skills:

  • Ability to communicate effectively in English both in verbal and written form.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and with a team.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Effective coaching skills.
  • Intermediate personal computer skills including MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook and routine database preferred.  (Ex:  electronic mail, creating letters, formatting data, using tables, inserting objects.)


Other Qualifications:

  • Must possess a valid State of Hawaii (or equivalent) motor vehicle license and a current acceptable traffic abstract.
  • Familiarity with local geographic areas preferred.
