Purpose of Job Position
The primary purpose of your job position is to maintain the grounds, facility, and equipment and perform duties as may be directed by your supervisor according to established maintenance policies and procedures and current applicable federal, state and local guidelines and regulations that govern St. Luke, and to assure a safe, clean and orderly environment for residents, employees and visitors.

Major Duties and Responsibilities
Personnel Functions
- Perform all assigned tasks in accordance with St. Luke’s established policies and procedures, and as instructed by your supervisor.
- Attend and participate in scheduled training and educational classes, inservices and orientation programs.
- Assure that work/cleaning schedules are followed as closely as practical.
Maintenance Services
- Ensure that delivery of services helps to support the mission of St. Luke Lutheran Community.
- Perform routine maintenance on grounds, parking areas, driveways, and all other duties assigned, by cutting, trimming, mowing, weeding, raking, sweeping, shoveling and plowing of snow, etc.
- Perform routine maintenance and repair on the facility and equipment to include painting, minor plumbing, plastering, carpentry, and all other duties assigned.
- Make routine inspections as assigned.
- Assist with basic installation of equipment as directed.
- Assist residents, family members, etc. with moving of personal items and belongings.
- Operate motor vehicles on the grounds and transport residents to local community functions or appointments in accordance with state and local laws.
- Clean/polish furnishings, fixtures, ledges, room heating/cooling units, etc. in recreational areas, etc., as needed.
- Replenish supplies in assigned work area. Be aware of the supply needs of the department.
- Keep supervisor informed of supply needs.
- Assist others in lifting heavy equipment, supplies, and any objects, as requested.
- Perform unscheduled maintenance tasks as directed.
- Discard waste/trash into proper containers.
- Pick up trash in designated areas as needed.
Safety and Infection Control
- Practice established infection control methods, safety precautions and universal precautions practices when performing all duties and using equipment and supplies.
- Report all hazardous conditions or equipment, and safety violations to your supervisor immediately.
- Report all accidents/incidents to your supervisor on the shift in which they occur.
- Assure that work/assignment areas are clean and equipment, tools, supplies, and related items, are properly stored.
- Dispose of refuse daily and discard infectious wastes.
- Report necessary repairs to appropriate personnel.
Resident Rights
- Maintain the confidentiality of ALL resident information.
- Ensure that you treat all residents fairly, and with kindness, dignity, and respect.
- Knock before entering the resident's room.
- Report all grievances and complaints made by the resident to the Charge/Staff nurse and/or Social Worker.
- Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest and positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment throughout the unit and shift.
- Immediately report any witnessed or suspected verbal, physical, mental abuse by an employee, visitor, family member, or resident toward a resident.
- Immediately report any witnessed or suspected abuse, misuse, or misappropriation of resident funds, belongings, etc. to the appropriate personnel.
Education/Experience Requirements
- Must possess, as a minimum, a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Basic knowledge of plumbing, carpentry, painting, dry wall, and electric preferred, but not necessary.
Specific Requirements
- Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
- Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action, to follow instructions, and to accept constructive criticism.
- Must possess patience and the ability to work effectively with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.
- Must be a minimum of sixteen (16) years of age.
- Must be able to relate information concerning a resident's condition.
- Must possess a current, valid, unencumbered state driver's license.
- Must be able to follow written and oral instructions concerning the mixture of cleaning compounds, liquids, cleaning instructions, etc.
Physical and Sensory Requirements

- Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
- Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
- Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
- Must be able to lift, push, pull, and move equipment, supplies, and any objects, at a minimum of eighty (80) pounds.
- Must have manual dexterity needed to perform procedures.
- Must be able to assist in the evacuation of residents.
