REPORTS TO: Dean of Academic Affairs

 

WORK SCHEDULE: Monday through Friday. 8:30a.m. to 5:00p.m.  

 

COMPENSATION: $74,680.58 - $89,392.66/year + DOE, Benefits, Exempt Position

 

CLOSING DATE: Until Filled

The Iñupiaq way of life is woven into our curriculum, programs, activities, and daily interactions within Ilisagvik College and our community partners. 

 

SUMMARY OF POSITION: The Training Facilitator develops and teaches courses and training workshops in the North Slope villages, in Utqiagvik and via distance delivery throughout the NSB using a combination of direct instruction, cooperative learning and computer-based interactive instruction.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Instructs in the following areas: Construction Skills and Industry Trainings (First Aid, Respirator Training, and/or various OSHA classes).
  • Is responsible for all aspects of the training schedule, including curriculum, location, time, trainer selection and marketing.
  • Promotes education and training for organizations to meet the human resource needs of North Slope employers.
  • Prepares, maintains, compiles and updates instructional and training materials, general course information and outlines, curricula and other course records.
  • Tracks course expenditures and coordinates payments to contractors, consultants and adjunct instructors.
  • Maintains appropriate student and applicable grant performance records.
  • Develops and maintains strong relationships with NSB village organizations and employers; plans and implements training projects designed to meet identified training needs.
  • Conducts an ongoing training needs assessment through a program of employer surveys, frequent contacts and relationship-building throughout the NSB.
  • Collects, evaluates and reviews data on training and business development needs with business clients in order to provide relevant training and workshops which will stimulate economic activity throughout the NSB.
  • Identifies and recruits instructors and students.
  • Facilities and schedules individual trainings.
  • Maintains a list of trainers and organizations that can provide training workshops in a range of topics to fulfill client needs.
  • Works closely with Workforce Development, the Marketing department, Student Services, and clients.
  • Explores and initiates novel and effective approaches to teaching and learning in a multicultural environment.
  • Serves as advisor and training coach to participants and monitors evaluations of all workshops and trainers' performance.
  • Assists in faculty recruitment and student orientation activities and works cooperatively with colleagues to ensure success of students.
  • Makes presentations, and attends meetings and special events, as required.
  • Engages with colleagues in annual program assessment.
  • Participates in professional development as appropriate.
  • Travels frequently, including travel throughout the NSB to conduct needs assessment and/or to conduct training workshops.
  • Actively participates in College and community service, including serving on committees and participating in College activities.
  • May teach college level credit courses as related to the grant programs in related field as needed and in the accordance with academic preparation.
  • Complies with College policies, procedures and administrative directives, as well as state, federal, and local laws, regulations, and ordinances.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

 

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Demonstrated professional teaching and/or training experience in a corporate or post-secondary environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in working with organizations to determine their training, education and experience needs.  
  • Demonstrated knowledge of one or more of the following: small business marketing, sales, advertising, marketing and management.
  • Demonstrated professional work experience in workshop and/or course development.
  • Demonstrated professional oral, written, interpersonal, and presentation communication skills.
  • Demonstrated PC proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.       
  • Good oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Demonstrated experience working independently in a rural, isolated environment.
  • Demonstrated successful experience as a trainer.
  • Demonstrated professional work experience in an Alaska Native environment.
  • Ability to travel periodically, including flying in small aircraft to remote locations with limited amenities.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen if required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in one or more of the following areas: post-secondary educational systems, North Slope Borough [NSB] institutions and organizations; Iñupiat culture, language, values, and traditions.
  • Ability to interpret and represent North Slope community values, customs, and beliefs for the College.
  • Ability to interpret and represent College actions and western institutions to the North Slope community.
  • Ability to support Ilisagvik College's mission.

 

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATES/TRAINING [REQUIRED]:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Business, Education, Management or other relevant field or appropriate industry credentials (candidates with complementary credentials/experience are encouraged to apply).
  • Valid Driver's License.

 

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATES/TRAININGS [PREFERRED]:

  • Master's degree or equivalent in Business, Education or related field.

Health Insurance - Ilisagvik College is self-insured and Meritain Health is the health insurance third party administrator. Ilisagvik College offers health insurance to our employees with a no cost premium, and $50/month for each additional dependent and a low cost annual deductible of $200 for employee only and $600 for family.

Life Insurance - Ilisagvik College offers Life Insurance and Accidental Death & Dismemberment coverage through Guardian Life to employees at no cost to the employee in the amount of $100,000/per benefit.
