PURPOSE OF THE JOB
The Associate Scientist- Glass Properties role within Manufacturing Innovation is in a research lab that supports operations, productivity, and innovation projects in support of Owens Corning glass-melting activities around the globe. The position incorporates knowledge of critical testing equipment plus documentation of and training on that equipment for the network. The work will also include activities such as glass melting and testing various glass-making materials. In this role it is critical to be able to work safely, drive results and collaborate with project leads and lab members. The successful candidate will be a key player in an exciting team-focused environment.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES & IMPACT
Sample Preparation and Analysis
Supports and troubleshoots critical testing capability across the OC network of glass plants
Sample preparation for various analyses
Working with glass samples for the Composites and Insulation businesses
Physical property testing on a variety of materials
Run analysis on glass and raw material samples using a variety of lab equipment including a VGA and TGA.
Supports refractory initiatives across the OC network through a variety of testing
Melting batch for making glass
Safely mix glass-making raw materials using weighing and melting equipment
Work with small furnaces to melt glass for testing and small-scale trials
Work with a variety of equipment to mix and melt glasses depending on project objectives
Collaborates and Fosters Teamwork
Collaborates with other team members to ensure lab requests are completed in a timely manner
Assists in high priority workstreams as a team
Collaborates with internal customers to promote team-based problem solving
Actively contributes to team troubleshooting to ensure the fulfillment of lab goals and objectives

JOB REQUIREMENTS
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
2-year degree in technical or engineering field
Must be authorized to work in the US without sponsorship
Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Products (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's Degree - engineering or hard science-based is preferred
Experience working in a laboratory
Experience working with sensitive instrumentation
Experience working with advanced lab equipment
Experience working in high heat environments
EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
Excellent verbal and written communication including technical writing skills
Comfortable working safely with high temperature materials
Ability to quickly learn to navigate instrument-specific software
Skilled with troubleshooting equipment
Willingness to support cross-functional customers
Ability to work in conditioned and unconditioned spaces
