Job description:
The Senior Infrastructure Engineer will support a CTO office within the DoD to be the eyes and ears for the CTO for situational awareness of the user experience for the organizations most important users. This will involve direct communication with these end users, the engineering and operations teams, and senior government managers. The candidate will leverage these channels to troubleshoot and identify the root cause for performance and availability issues impacting these users. The candidate will also advise the CTO on tactical approaches to implement technologies to meeting business strategic objectives and resolve technical service gaps, pain points, and technical debt.
Responsibilities:
The Senior Infrastructure Engineer should be familiar with:
- Enterprise IT architecture, on-premises IT platforms (e.g., compute, storage, networking, and private cloud) and the DoD cybersecurity Risk Management Framework (RMF).
- Extensive experience in troubleshooting complex global network systems and interfacing with the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) and commercial Internet Service Providers (ISPs) for service ordering and support.
- Deep understanding and ability to troubleshoot the Windows ecosystem from the design and operation of enterprise domain services to application management on the user’s desktop and the LAN and WAN networks that provide transport between the user and enterprise resources.
- Design, implementation and management of applications running on Windows server operating systems and approaches to authenticate users using single sign-on.
Here’s what you need:
- Minimum eight (8) years’ experience with in-depth troubleshooting of WAN and LAN network technologies:
- Minimum five (5) years' experience with the in-depth configuration and troubleshooting of the Microsoft on-premises ecosystem (examples include: Microsoft AD, DNS, DHCP, CA, Exchange, Windows Server, and Windows desktop clients).
- Experience with developing architecture and detailed design recommendations using requirements derived from the organization’s strategic mission statement, business objectives, and observed operational and user impacting issues.
- Experience with the analysis of commercial products to identify the cost, value, risks, and fit for the organization to support a recommendation for the updating of the enterprise technology roadmap.
Bonus points if you have:
- Experience with Software-Defined WAN and LAN
- Experience with Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) and Traffic Engineering using MPLS TE and Policy Based Routing.
- Experience with WAN ISP service offerings such as L2 & L3 Private VPNs.
- Experience with public clouds offering from AWS, Azure, Oracle, and Google.
- Experience with private cloud products like Azure Stack Hub, Distributed Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, and AWS Outpost.
- Demonstrated experience with managing and using DevOps concepts.
- Automation tools such as PowerShell, Ansible, and Terraform and version control using a code repository.
- Understanding of approaches to enabling single sign-on using SAML, OAuth, OpenID, or Microsoft AD Federated Services.
- Experience with user and computer credential assurance through PKI certificates and smart cards.
- Effective verbal and non-verbal communication with peers, end users, and C-Suite level client leadership.
- Experience with the deployment and configuration of Windows using centralized management and update services (examples include AD, WSUS, SCCM, and Desired State Configuration).
- Experience with monitoring performance and throughput and setting baselines for acceptable performances standards for new solutions.
- Experience with the operation and configuration of VMware ESXi virtual infrastructure.
- Experience with Cisco Unified Communications Manager, Cisco IP phones, and support of network. transport to include the configuring of Quality of Service/Class of Service, packet queues, call encoding, and call processing for transport outside of the caller’s local LAN.
- Experience with system engineering planning and analysis activities including gathering business, technical and user requirements, researching, analyzing, and reporting on the products available on the market, and documenting how systems and services achieve the user and strategic enterprise objectives.
- Cisco, Microsoft, or VMware certifications.
- Security+ or equivalent 8570/8140 security certification.
Security Clearance:
- Active TS/SCI security clearance required, likely to obtain polygraph
