Position Purpose:
The Laboratory Senior Manager directs the day-to-day operations of the PQE laboratory, taking charge of crafting and updating laboratory policies and procedures as required. They oversee the planning, execution, and review of tests, ensuring both precision and adherence to safety standards prior to publication. In addition, they manage the procurement and inspection of materials and equipment, meticulously maintaining inventory records. In this role, the Laboratory Senior Manager plays a pivotal part in strategic decision-making, providing valuable insights for budget development and resource allocation. Their expertise enables them to effectively tackle escalated operational issues, collaborating with diverse departments as necessary. Furthermore, they facilitate seamless coordination with the Asian laboratory, ensuring harmonious alignment and operational synergy between the two facilities while adhering to safety protocols.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead a team of engineers and technicians to support new product development qualifications.
- Collaborate with product engineers, project leaders, and test engineers.
- Manage day-to-day test lab operations to ensure compliance with safety protocols and industry standards.
- Align testing activities with project timelines and objectives.
- Prepare and deliver technical reports, summaries, and presentations to internal teams and clients.
- Implement quality assurance processes, including six sigma principles, to ensure test result reliability and accuracy.
- Review test data and reports to ensure completeness, accuracy, and compliance with quality standards.
- Recruit, train, and supervise lab technicians and engineers.
- Provide leadership, mentorship, and performance feedback to foster team productivity.
- Manage the lab budget, including resource allocation, procurement, and expense tracking.
- Maintain and calibrate testing equipment for accuracy and reliability.
- Provide technical guidance and support to lab staff and project teams.
- Stay updated on industry trends, testing technology advancements, and regulatory requirements.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement, efficiency gains, and cost reduction within the lab.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations, environmental standards, and industry best practices.
Direct Manager/Direct Reports:
- Typically reports to Sr Director Product Engineering.
- Typically has direct reports that include Test Engineers, Lab Manager & Technicians
- Works in a team environment with direct responsibility for providing the resources and talent to meet the goals of the team.
Travel Requirements:
- Typically requires overnight travel 5% of the time.
Physical Requirements:
- Frequent periods are spent standing or sitting in the same location with some opportunity to move about; occasionally there may be a need to stoop or lift light objects (typically less than 8 pounds).
Working Conditions:
- Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be eighteen years of age or older.
- Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in mechanical testing coupled with product development expertise.
- Exhibits exceptional organizational skills, a proactive mindset towards goal attainment, and a strong sense of personal accountability.
- Proficient in mechanical testing techniques, equipment operation, and data analysis.
- Possesses fundamental knowledge of relevant manufacturing processes.

Onsite – An associate in an onsite role is required to work at a specific Home Depot location in order to complete their job duties. We also refer to this as location – dependent.
