Sr. Java Software Engineer - (Full Backend)

We are the "one-stop shop" for external clients approved to sell the magical Disney products. Our team focuses on delivering outstanding Application Programming Interfaces – API, that allows third party companies sell the magical Disney products such as Resort Accommodation, Theme Park Tickets and our world-class Dining experience across our Walt Disney World and Disneyland facilities.
We are responsible for the end-to-end digital experience for all clients and we always stay one step ahead with innovations and pioneer many initiatives in the Travel Trade industry! This role sits in the Digital Travel Trade and eCommerce Parks and Commercial Systems. It works closely with a diverse team of engineers and service owners from across the company.
The Sr Software Engineer will report to the Manager-Technology.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Executes assigned component level software development and fixes using new or existing technologies.
- Participates in developing specifications for assigned components, projects, and fixes.
- Providing technical direction and evaluating the quality of deliverables from vendors.
- Leading development programs and teams where a project comprises of many components from ideation through implementation.
- Ability to communicate to both technical and business users and the ability to gracefully handle passionate conversations.
- Overseeing, influencing and mentoring collaborative project teams, inclusive of on-shore and off-shore development resources, key clients, and other technical groups in the organization
- Leading team members in the delivery of technology solutions which meet business delivery expectations, maintain portfolio currency, and integrate best engineering practices.
- Working closely with technical and non-technical leaders to strategize on delivery approach and dependency management.
- Participating in the design process of new features and enhancements to the software platform.
- Strong practice of agile development in a collaborative, dynamic team environment.
- Highly flexible to quickly changing business needs and adoption of new technologies.
- Ability to create and follow programming and style guidelines to maintain high-quality, secure code.
- Ability to create and maintain documentation, procedures, and work instructions for development or operations team.
- Overseeing the diagnosis of issues, evaluating and recommending the best resolution plan and executing against that plan.
- Working closely with the Quality Engineers, Project Management and Business teams on solution implementation.
- Adhering to technical development processes, standard and software engineering best practices.
- Perform code reviews on regular basis and setup best practices.
- Ensuring a process orientation across the technical/project team, being able to develop, implement and improve processes.
- Working independently and delivering on agreed upon timelines.
- Responsible for Release Management, Service Management and build configuration in highly integrated environment while using DevOps tools like Jenkins, Rundeck, API gateways, AppDynamics and Splunk.
- Experience building dashboards and with an understanding of logging best practices, log aggregation with tools such as Splunk.
- Maintain excellent knowledge of methodologies to create alerts, dashboards, proactive monitoring to support sustainment teams.
Skills, Knowledge, Experience, Education, Licensure and Certifications
REQUIRED
- A minimum of 5 years of software development experience
- ·Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or comparable field of study, and/or equivalent work experienceExperience collecting, reviewing and updating requirements and/or user stories.
- Experience writing technical documentation and providing engineering deliverables.
- Providing technical leadership, able to inspire and coach other technical members to perform at their highest potential.
- Experience with SCRUM and other Agile development practices.
- Experience with progressively related experience in design, development, testing, and implementation of highly scalable, high-volume software systems and components, applications, and major SaaS solutions
SIGNIFICANT KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE IN RELEVANT TECHNOLOGIES

PREFERRED
- Working knowledge of micro-services
- RESTful Web Services or APIs using Spring boot, Spring Cloud Function, JPA, JAXB
- Database Design

- Progressively related experience in design, development, and implementation of highly scalable, high-volume software systems and components
- Experience with event driven architecture, including technologies such as JMS, IBM WebSphere MQ Series RabbitMQ, Kafka, and similar solutions.
- HTML/XHTML/DHTML
- CSS
- Strong knowledge of unit testing, behavioral testing and continuous integration such as Junit, JBehave, Component test cases.
- Working knowledge of object-oriented programming with an understanding of design principles
- Ruby, Python, PHP, JSP, ASP or other scripting languages
- PHP/ Zend Framework development skills, among mainstream programming languages, with a proven record of creating commercial quality software solutions.
- Experience with software performance optimization using with VisualVM, Parasoft, YourKit
- Experience with ElasticSearch, EhCache, JCS Cache, Hazelcast, and Redis cache frameworks.
- Experience in dynamic development technologies using Java, Angular and relational databases.
- Experience with source control and build deploy tools such as Git, Git Prime, Sonar Jenkins, Maven, CICD.
- Experience with Couch-base No SQL Databases. MySQL and Oracle, Maria relational Databases.
- Experience with SCRUM and other agile development practices
- Monitoring tools like App Dynamics, New Relic, Splunk, Site Scope.
SOFT SKILLS & OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills. The position requires frequent communication with senior.
- Proven ability to work with all members of an extended and diverse project team.
- Must be detail-oriented, self-organized, be committed to quality and be capable of tracking multiple issues simultaneously.
- Candidate must have mentoring and guidance skills to provide oversight and direction to contractors and internal members
- Ability to handle virtual teams and work with resources in multiple sites (onsite, offshore, near shore)
- Excellent time management skills
The hiring range for this position in Glendale, California is $ $136,038 - $182,490 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
