Medical Assistant (Consultant)
EAC Network, a not-for-profit social service agency that empowers, assists, and cares for over 62,888 people in need through 100 programs across Long Island and NYC, seeks a Medical Assistant (Consultant) to work part time for its Child Advocacy Center program.
The Medical Assistant (Consultant) position is a non-exempt position paying $20-25 per hour. The hours are flexible up to 10 hours for the week (Monday-Friday). Consulting Medical Assistant will be working in the Child Advocacy Center in the Central Islip location. The role reports to the Division Director.
Primary Purpose of Job:
The Medical Assistant will assist the medical providers at the Child Advocacy Centers with various aspects of patient care. Using a multidisciplinary team approach, the Child Advocacy Centers, located in Central Islip and Riverhead, NY, provide services to child victims of sexual abuse.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
- Escort patients to exam rooms, measure vital signs, including weight, blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and document all information in patient’s chart
- Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations.
- Assist medical providers in exam rooms
- Disinfect, clean treatment rooms following patient examinations; maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by establishing and following standards and procedures; comply with legal regulations.
- Keep exam rooms stocked with adequate medical supplies, maintain instruments, prepare sterilization as required; properly disposes of contaminated supplies
- Assist in the collection of specimens
- Perform a routine venipuncture
- Prepare specimens for delivery to laboratory
- Attend relevant trainings and monthly case review meetings to be kept informed of current research and best practices in the field.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities Required:
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
- Successful completion of Medical Assistant Program or equivalent hospital program or at least 2 years of experience as a Medical Assistant required.
- Must have a minimum of two years’ experience working with pediatric patients and must have experience drawing blood from pediatric patients.
- Must have good communication skills, both oral and written; must have ability to work cooperatively with other agencies and professionals interfacing with program clients.
- Must be proficient in computer applications or other automated systems such as spreadsheets, Microsoft Office applications, calendar, email and/or database software necessary to perform work assignments.
