Senior Solution Architect - Remote

SMX is seeking an experienced Senior Solutions Architect to support projects across the Cloud Business Unit focusing in on Defense and National Security Clients.   The Senior Solutions Architect (SSA) will design and develop technical solutions for high visibility client engagements.  The SSA must be a proven problem solver in technical and management disciplines as well as DoD. This is a hands on role where the SSA serves in various functions, such as cloud technical SME, lead project architect, as well as performing capture support. The ideal Senior Solutions Architect will develop and translate customer requirements into world-class solutions and leads the implementation of government approved solutions.

The SSA will be responsible for translating customer requirements and needs into proven, fully documented, and cost-efficient design patterns. The SSA will be responsible for both helping customers develop their vision and roadmap to modernize high-profile, mission critical, legacy workloads as well as hands-on execution of those modernization efforts.  The ability to design solutions for customers with incomplete information, leading the solution design process and planning, and documenting those solutions in the form of artifacts during project delivery  as well as  Statements of Work (SOWs) is a must.

The successful candidate will be capable of applying experience transforming or re-inventing legacy applications leveraging cloud technology and of helping customers develop their vision and roadmap. The ideal candidate will have background that enables them to interact effectively at the executive level, as well as a technical background to drive engagement work with both our engineering teams and customer teams. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead and support technical delivery of cloud solutions on key client engagements. Act as a trusted advisor for technical decisions during client engagements.  Develop courses of action using innovative and best practices cloud solution architecture based on customer requirements 
  • Act as Technical Lead on projects providing technical direction and oversite to other Solutions Architects and Cloud Engineers
  • Drive Solution Design and Assist with determining level of effort estimates for various efforts, using information provided as part of the solicitation documentation, to determine most cost efficient and effective approaches.
  • Deliver design artifacts and as-built documents during project delivery. 
  • Facilitate white-boarding architecture sessions to help customers understand complex architectures and concepts
  • Take ownership of issues and act with high sense of urgency when required providing direct support to AWS customers.
  • Actively participate in the development and review of business and system requirements to obtain a thorough understanding of customer needs to deliver accurate solutions.
  • Architect solutions to complex client challenges to support their broader cloud adoption objectives

Required Skills:

  • Current clearance or the ability to obtain a Secret or Top-Secret clearance
  • Cloud Subject Matter expertise in architecture design for AWS
  • Direct experience in migrating on premise applications to cloud including methods such as rehosting, replatforming, and rearchitecting.
  • Extensive  design experience is the creation of high-quality technical documentation including solution design, data flows, as built documents.
  • Delivery experience and working knowledge utilizing key Department of Defense guidance and governance including DoD Cloud Computing Security Requirements Guide, Risk Management Framework (RMF), and Secure Cloud Computing Architecture (SCCA)
  • Experience and working knowledge of automation techniques and development of pipelines/ scripts within a DevSecOps model and associated tooling
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code using AWS Cloud Formation and Terraform
  • Extensive technical experience in the IT industry, with specific expertise in delivery areas of Cloud, IT Infrastructure, Architecture, and Security as well as hands on core system administration and Problem determination skills.  Understanding of DNS, AD, Firewalls, Identity and Access Management, and Zero Trust
  • Problem determination skills from design issues through packet level inspection to determine root causes of issues.
  • Experience in the configuration and uses of continuous monitoring tooling and Security and Information Event Management (SIEM) logging.
  • Performs with attention to detail and operates with a sense of urgency while delivering high quality client-facing deliverables
  • Possesses excellent verbal and written communication skills to clearly articulate themes, ideas, and other insights to clients, company management, and relevant stakeholders
  • Strong creative ability to generate ideas for solving complex problems and producing outcomes
  • Able to adjust to frequent changes in priorities, effectively managing time and working across multiple projects with competing deadlines
  • Ability to think strategically and tactically
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Customer-focused attitude

Required Experience: Education and years of experience, etc. and preferred experience.(Education, certifications, years of experience)

  • 8+ years overall IT experience
  • 5+ years building and migrating infrastructure solutions on AWS platform
  • AWS Certified Solution Architect Associate (Professional preferred)
  • CompTIA Security+
  • Bachelor’s degree additional experience will be considered in lieu of degree
