The duties that the incumbent of the vacancy will be expected to perform. Duties Description Incumbent will participate in a variety of reptile and amphibian surveys, including wood turtle, bog turtle, timber rattlesnake, and eastern hellbender surveys. Methods may include collecting water samples for eDNA analysis, PIT-tag scanning, visual and trapping surveys, camera trapping, vegetation surveys and other techniques. Duties also include assisting with care of captive hellbenders for head-starting program and may include installing artificial nest boxes and/or large, flat flagstone cover rocks to enhance hellbender habitat. The incumbent will be responsible for data entry, summarization, and completion of summary reports related to work on these and other projects. As time and opportunity permits, incumbent may assist with other regional wildlife tasks and duties. Position involves travel from the office to study sites and will require long days and possible early morning or late evening work.
The minimum qualifications required for this vacancy. Minimum Qualifications Thirty (30) semester credit hours, including 12 semester credit hours in fisheries, marine resources or wildlife management; mariculture; marine biology; aquaculture; aquatic, marine or terrestrial ecology; zoology; marine technology; botany; limnology; hydrology; or oceanography.
Preferred: Experience in the use of GPS, GIS and Excel.
Familiarity with reptile/amphibian and vegetation survey techniques
Experience working in aquatic environments
Experience working in remote and steep terrain
Additional comments regarding the vacancy. Additional Comments This is a seasonal, hourly appointment with an anticipated end date of 10/15/2025. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date.
