SMX is seeking an enthusiastic junior to mid-level software developer to join our experienced software team. You will report directly to the IT Service Management manager and assist with all functions of software coding and design related to our IT Service Management platform. Your primary focus will be to learn the codebase, triage customer issues, gather user requirements, and respond to development tasking from the development manager.

To ensure success as a junior to mid-level software developer, you should have a good working knowledge of basic programming concepts, the ability to learn new technology quickly, and the ability to work in a team environment. Ultimately, a top-class Junior to mid-level software developer provides valuable support to the development team while continually improving their coding and design skills. This position requires collaboration with cross-functional teams, interaction with customers / end-users, the maintenance and integration of existing capabilities, as well as development of new capabilities. The candidate for this position must have strong interpersonal communication skills, ability to manage assigned tasks, report on tasking progress, and meet deadlines.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist development manager with all aspects of software design and coding.
  • Attend and contribute to development and status meetings.
  • Learn codebase and improve coding skills.
  • Write and maintain code.
  • Work on bug fixes.
  • Perform code-reviews as assigned.
  • Write technical design documents and participate in technical design discussions.
  • Respond to requests from the development team.
  • Respond to customer / end-user submitted defects and enhancements.
  • Gather information from customers / end-users about business requirements and desired application functionality.
  • Develop reports and dashboards.
  • Conduct unit tests.
  • Participate in user acceptance tests.
  • Support our current customers / end-users

Required Skills/Experience

  • A minimum of 1-2 years of software development experience
  • Knowledge of web application coding languages such as C#, JavaScript, Python, Visual Basic, SQL HTML5, and CSS.
  • Basic programming concepts: conditions, expressions, looping, modularization.
  • Foundational knowledge of databases and operating systems.
  • Working knowledge of back-office systems such as Office 365 and Teams.
  • Ability to learn new software and technologies.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work in a team environment.
  • Detail-oriented and capable of implementing software from requirements

Desired Skills/Experience

  • Associate degree / Certificate or better or commensurate experience.
  • 1+ Years of professional software development experience.
  • Knowledge of ServiceNow platform - Use, Administration, Customization, and Application Development
  • Knowledge of other coding languages such as C#, Java, SQL.
  • Experience working with user experience libraries such as AngularJS or React.
  • Knowledge of the Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL)
  • Knowledge of Information Technology Service Management concepts (ITSM)

 

US Citizenship required for work under DoD contracts.
