TITLE: Maintenance Worker
STATUS OF EMPLOYMENT: Seasonal
SALARY CLASSIFICATION: Hourly - Starting rate $13-15/per hr.
BENEFITS: Participation in the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
Park Maintenance Worker maintains and enhances Park District's lands and facilities by performing
unskilled and semi-skilled jobs in a manner, which assures the highest standard of maintenance, safety
and service to the public.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Reports to the Park Manager, or as assigned, to the Crew Leader or other designated supervisor.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
May be called upon to provide routine work direction to other seasonal employees.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential Functions:
1. Performs unskilled and as capable, semi-skilled work in a responsible manner; typical duties
including but not limited to:
A. Preventative and routine maintenance of park lands, buildings, and facilities such as picking up
trash, picnic maintenance, trail maintenance, landscape, signs installation/maintenance, and
painting/staining.
B. Building and facility maintenance such as washing windows, walls, floors, and fixtures, minor
repairs, painting, and other janitorial duties.
C. Trail maintenance such as pruning, trimming, cleaning drainage, installing and maintaining signs.
D. Turf, landscape, and plant maintenance functions such as mowing, trimming, weeding, and
pruning.
E. Operates and maintains the following equipment:
a. Trucks; mowing equipment; utility vehicles; small engine equipment; hand tools.
F. Carries out duties and responsibilities in safe and efficient manner to maintain safe work
environment and surrounding area. Promptly notifying supervisory personnel of hazardous
and/or potentially unsafe. Participates in the safety and risk management programs of the Park
District.
G. Notifies supervisor of key issues promptly and advised of work that needs to be done and
progress of assigned jobs.
H. Other functions: Assists in special events and activities sponsored by the Park District.
I. Participates in the safety and risk management programs of the Park District.
J. Works with skilled-level employees (Technician III, Carpenter, Utility, Maintenance/Utility)
toward the completion of construction, renovation projects and repair work of' facilities.
K. Performs other related duties as assigned by supervision.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Age Requirement
Must be at least 18 years of age or obtained a high school diploma or GED.
Education:
High school student, graduate of high School or GED equivalent preferred.
Experience:
Experience in lawn care, landscaping, painting and janitorial duties preferred.
Knowledge and abilities:
A. Ability to perform substantial physical labor, outdoors in all weather conditions.
B. Ability to understand and follow simple oral and written instructions.
C. Demonstrated emotional intelligence to include: demonstrated self-awareness and accurate
self-assessment, demonstrated sensitivity and empathy, demonstrated openness, reliability,
trust and consistency.
Licenses:
Possession of a valid State of Ohio motor vehicle drivers’ license with driving record in compliance
with Park District’s policies.
Physical Requirements:
Physical condition adequate to perform all related duties and assignments.
Essential Physical Demands and Working Conditions
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk (often on
uneven terrain), talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle or
feel and is required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is required to sit; climb or balance;
stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; taste or smell. The employee may be exposed to high, precarious places.
The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and may occasionally lift and/or move up
to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision,
peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts;
extreme outside weather conditions including temperature, humidity and wet; fumes or airborne
particles; and confined spaces. The noise level of the working environment may often be loud.
CONDITIONS OF CONTINUED EMPLOYMENT:
Must successfully complete a one (1) month probationary period
