BASIC PURPOSE

Reporting to the Assistant City Manager, under general direction and in collaboration with the Human Services Coordinator, the Lacey Veteran Services Hub (LVSH) Coordinator assists in planning, organizing, and overseeing the daily operations and strategic initiatives of this City-operated facility. This includes, but is not limited to, managing volunteer activities; coordinating service-provider partnerships and community outreach; ensuring policy compliance; and maintaining the facility.

The LVSH assists Veterans, Active Military, National Guard, Reserves, and their families in Thurston County to connect with resources through third-party providers, including benefits, employment, housing, finance, behavioral health, education, nutrition, healthcare, and legal services. The LVSH is a one-stop shop for the needs of veterans and their families, and the facility’s primary service area encompasses Thurston County.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists in the coordination of the daily operations of the LVSH, including client and service provider adherence to operating policies and procedures. Oversees all facility operations, including facility maintenance, security protocols, and opening/closing procedures.
  • Recruits, trains, schedules, and supervises volunteers, interns, and temporary staff to ensure effective service to clients. Sets performance and service expectations aligned with LVSH objectives and City policies.
  • Identifies, recruits, and retains qualified service providers to meet the diverse needs of the veteran community. Coordinates provider scheduling, meetings, and any special planning sessions. Serves as the primary point of contact for provider relations and problem resolution.
  • Assists with implementation of City policies, procedures, and priorities for the LVSH, ensuring compliance by partners, volunteers, and community members.
  • Researches new programs, providers, and interests and improves existing programs or events in order to meet community needs. Recommends programmatic improvements and best practices to enhance service delivery, and participates in strategic planning for the LVSH and Thurston County veterans’ services.
  • Coordinates facility scheduling, including service provider and community-room reservations. Arranges appropriate facilities, supplies, and equipment for LVSH programs and events.
  • Assists in developing, and leading outreach initiatives (in-person and remote), to engage veterans, military service members, and service providers. Attends fairs and community events, providing presentations to the public, other agencies or community groups on behalf of LVSH.
  • Evaluates the quality of programs, volunteers, and facilities through participant surveys and performance evaluations.
  • Manages social media accounts to enhance visibility and stakeholder engagement.
  • Creates, tracks and reports monthly performance measures, including provider utilization, resource needs, and program outcomes.
  • Maintains records for grants, donations, and program revenues/expenditures.

Other Duties Assigned
  • Assists City Manager’s staff on special projects as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in Social Work; Social and Behavioral Sciences, or a related field.

OR

Associate’s Degree in Social Work, Social and Behavioral Sciences, or a related field AND two (2) years of experience in Social services program planning and/or experience in behavioral services program planning or a related field.

OR

High School Diploma or GED and four (4) Social Work, Social and Behavioral Sciences, Social services program planning or a related field.

* May have a combination of experience, education, and training that would substitute for the above requirements.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience providing or coordinating social services for veterans or active-duty populations.
  • United States Armed Forces experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS OR LICENSE(S):
  • Must pass a thorough background investigation and successfully complete pre-employment medical testing for the ability to perform the essential functions of the position.
  • Must maintain a level of physical and mental fitness necessary to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without a reasonable accommodation
  • Must be attentive to job safety considerations and follows all required safety policies, procedures and techniques. 
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Washington State driver's license and a driving record acceptable to the City and the City's insurance carrier OR must be able to provide own transportation to and from job, meetings, and related job sites. 
  • Verification of identity and United States work authorization must be completed as required by the Immigration Reform and Control Act.
