This position is located in the Dwight D. Eisenhower Army Medical Center, Fort Eisenhower, Georgia.
Ft. Esienhower is adjacent to Augusta, GA famous for its major attraction, The Masters Golf Tournament. Ft. Eisenhower has a moderate year-round climate and offers close proximity to metropolitan areas, beaches along the Atlantic Ocean and the Appalachian Mountains.
As a Physician (Pathology) you will:
Serves as an expert and consultant in Pathology. Performs high complexity individual work requiring a high level of professional competence. Provides consultation and guidance to laboratory and hospital staff. Submits typed, legibly handwritten, or dictated reports of the interpretation for transcription. Provides expert consultation to all Departments on Blood Bank and other laboratory matters regarding the ordering of appropriate tests and the medical significance of laboratory data. Recognized for and exercises a high degree of professional leadership in providing advisory service in the specialty area. Serves as an authoritative consultant on very complicated diagnostic and treatment problems with responsibility for recognizing rare and difficult to identify symptoms.
Performs autopsies and renders timely report of findings. Performs surgical procedures to gross surgical specimens from surgical, radiological, and other invasive procedures; renders expert gross and microscopic diagnoses; renal biopsy adequacies and performs frozen section evaluations as requested. Renders timely written and oral diagnostic opinions. Provides expert consultation and consults with clinicians concerning complex pathological diagnoses. Participates in Quality Improvement activities. Evaluates fine needle aspirations for adequacy and performs fine needle aspirations for cytological diagnoses as requested. Evaluates screened Gynecological and non-Gynecological cytology and renders diagnoses. Correlates cytology studies with surgical and clinical analyses, helping to complete or clarify the diagnosis of a disease.
Ensures an effective quality management program for the laboratory. Ensures proficiency testing, alternative assessment, and quality control procedures are sufficient for the extent of testing performed in the laboratory. Assigned medical directorship of one or several sections. Evaluates need on specific laboratory testing and approves or disapproves said testing. Ensures that the performance specifications for new tests, instruments, and methods introduced to the laboratory have been properly validated or verified prior to being used for patient testing. Provides a laboratory and diagnostic consultation service to all Departments, serving as the Technical Supervisor of that activity in conformance with the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments of1988 (CLIA 88). Generates and evaluates correlation and quality control/assurance data for results obtained in the Clinical Laboratory. Devises, validates, and approves new policies and procedures.
Participates in quality assurance, utilization review, risk management, and peer review activities. Attends hospital staff meetings as required. Serves as a member of the Medical Staff Executive Committee, Credentials Committee, Command Management Review Committee, Tumor Board Committee, and other hospital committees as assigned. Ensures that the highest standards of professional practice and ethics are maintained, that established operating policies are adhered to, that staff personnel receive the necessary professional training, that medical records are properly safeguarded and maintained, and that all required reports are prepared and submitted in a timely manner. Participates in design and delivery of educational programs initiated by the Department for dissemination throughout the hospital on any aspect of the clinical lab. Gives lectures, post-graduate level courses and participates in symposia and conferences; provides instruction to residents rotating through the Residency Program.

Must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
