Position Summary
SUNY Cortland invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Childhood/ Early Childhood Education Department to begin fall 2024.

The Childhood/Early Childhood Education Department offers degree programs in Early Childhood and Childhood Education at the undergraduate and graduate levels. We are committed to providing future educators with unique learning opportunities that merge coursework from our programs with early practice teaching experiences in our growing network of Professional Development Schools (PDS). Our programs prepare teachers to create child-centered, inquiry-based and developmentally appropriate learning environments and to advocate for children’s equitable educational opportunities from birth through grade six. We are committed to preparing teachers to respond to the needs of all children and families in an increasingly diverse and global society. Early Childhood and Childhood Education faculty represent a rich array of interests with core values including effective leadership, policy formulation, inquiry, equity, eco-justice and collaboration. The position provides an opportunity to join a department with an innovative approach to teacher education.
Major Responsibilities
  • Prepare and teach elementary education methods courses within at least one of the following areas of specialization: math, science, educational technology, and/or curriculum and instruction.
  • Supervise student teachers
  • Work with school partners
Functional and Supervisory Relationships
Reports to the chair of the Childhood/Early Childhood Education Department.
Required Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Education or related field


Preferred Qualifications
  • An earned doctoral degree (PhD or EdD) or ABD status in Education or related field
  • A minimum of three years teaching experience in P-12 schools
  • College-level teacher experience
