Job Summary
The Associate Director for Residence Life reports directly to the Director of Housing and Residential Life with a primary focus on facilitating an engaging residential experience that is highly relational; fosters curiosity and learning; centers well-being; and supports students successfully finding their way.
The Associate Director for Residence Life supports the residential experience by providing overall leadership to the residence life staff team and essential administrative functions of the residence life operation. This includes but is not limited to recruitment, selection, ongoing development, as well as performance management of professional and student staff; collaborative development and implementation of the residential experience model; departmental signature engagement events; and departmentally sponsored student leadership organizations. This position has an opportunity to live in university-owned housing.
Required Qualifications
  • Demonstrated background and knowledge of residential life operations, student development, and student services operations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of student conduct adjudicating.
  • Ability to work independently as well as work with peers as a member of a leadership team. Demonstrated experience with staff supervision and evaluation.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with students, faculty, staff, family, and community members both verbally and in writing.
  • Record of and commitment to cultivating inclusive and socially just communities.
  • Experience being on-call for crisis response in a residential community.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience in a live-on residential life position at a college or university.
  • Previous experience working within various university housing types (traditional, suite, apartment-style communities).
  • Prior work with living-learning communities and residential learning initiatives.
  • Demonstrated professional staff supervision.
  • Proven ability to build effective work teams focused on student success.
  • Progressive experience in residential life or student affairs.
