The Opportunity

This position Informatics Technical Specialist (works out of a US remote location (near a major US airport) in the Molecular Division in Abbott. Our molecular Division delivers best-in-class innovative testing solutions for people around the world to provide answers to life’s critical health decisions.  We help people live full and healthy lives through our accessible, molecular-based solutions.

The Informatics Technical Specialist (ITS) primary job function is to serve a subject matter expert for support to our molecular diagnostics customers. These customers operate Abbott analyzers and assays and may require consulting/advisory support to resolve IT issues related to system connections, as well as the management of the results that are produced by Abbott analyzers.

Join our team to collaborate with commercial, applications, and service teams in integrating Abbott analyzers with customer middleware and LIS. You'll also provide ongoing support to helpline colleagues during escalations related to instrument connectivity. This role requires managing multiple projects simultaneously, acting as the technical expert and communication bridge to global support, field organizations, and customers for advanced support needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a technical expert in the end-to-end delivery of Digital Health applications, central to Abbott's consumer healthcare strategy.

  • Oversee complex IT implementations, testing, training, and escalation management.

  • Mentor and guide newer or less experienced employees in specific applications, leveraging your understanding of our application nuances.

  • Develop and deliver comprehensive training and support to internal teams, enhancing organizational IT competence and business retention.

  • Administer the "AbbottLink" proactive system monitoring tool in collaboration with global cross-divisional colleagues.

What You’ll Work On

  • The resource will apply their technical IT and networking knowledge to support Abbott Molecular customers’ requests regarding LIS and middleware connectivity for new instrument connections and adding of new assays.

  • Troubleshoot, diagnose and resolve complex IT networking issues, including analyzer connectivity to Lab Information Systems (LIS), workflow automation and middleware.

  • Careful communication with customers to understand complex problems, investigate a large variety of IT systems remotely, and quickly find a resolution to minimize downtime of analyzers.

  • Utilize ticket documentation system to ensure all meaningful data is captured to support product design/customer usability per compliance standards.

  • Subject matter expert on cybersecurity and AbbottLink for remote services.

  • Communicates with peers, including teammates, sales, field service, global service support, and quality via phone, email, or instant messaging to collaborate and knowledge share.

  • Must be able to multi-task and coordinate with a complex network of departments throughout all levels of an organization such as sales representatives, lab managers, IT personnel, HIS and LIS personnel.

  • Responsible for implementing and maintain the effectiveness of the quality system

  • Activities will include RFI/RFP assistance.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required with preferred areas in computer science, informatics systems, medical technology or related fields.

  • 2 or more years of experience in Healthcare Industry Experience and at least 5 years of experience in IT as it pertains to this role and what it required to be successful. Examples would: Candidates must demonstrate strong knowledge of general networking, troubleshooting of HL7 and other industry standard interfacing protocols, including log analysis, knowledge of managing interface/integration engines e.g. Cloverleaf, DI, Mirth, Open Link, service technology (including troubleshooting application e.g. Wire Shark, workstation/desktop technology, internet protocols, remote connectivity and Microsoft Windows Server skills.

  • This is a remote position, mainly supporting Americas but with interactions with global teams. Must have reliable internet and dedicated office area for a quiet work environment. Must have flexibility with working hours for non-standard calls if needed.

  • Travel up to 25% is required. Must be near a US Airport in the Continental United States. Must have valid travel documents to fly within the United States.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Areas of expertise should include virtual server, corporate virus protection (cybersecurity), back-up systems, firewalls, VPN client and tunnel technologies.

  • Education or experience in medical technology or clinical laboratory science with familiarity with laboratory workflow and operations is highly preferred.

  • More than 5 years of formal IT technical experience is required with additional experience in the hospital or laboratory information systems environment preferred.

  • Excellent communication, project management, problem-solving skills and attention to detail is required.

  • Effective customer interaction skills. Expertise in setting and managing customer and internal teams’ expectations.

The base pay for this position is $85,300.00 – $170,700.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
