Axient LLC is currently seeking an Electrical Engineer to provide advisory and assistance services in support of customer needs at Arnold AFB, TN .
What you will do...
The Electrical Engineer will serve as the expert working with IPT Leads, Chief Engineers, and team members to develop objectives, opportunities, strategies, and plans to implement electrical engineering solutions. The Electrical Engineer will also assist in identifying and implementing innovative technologies to expedite the development of solutions and improve system engineering. Candidate will work within an established and very skilled team of engineers and scientists, contributing to various projects which often require analyzing, understanding, and modeling complex, real-world phenomena to support design and decision making. You will be given the opportunity to provide important contributions for challenging problems to ongoing programs. Because of this, we seek team members that are driven and engaged in their work while simultaneously demonstrating high character, given that you will often be working on sensitive and unique problems which require a high degree of trust from our customers.
Duties will include but are not limited to:
Develop and implement mathematical models of electrical systems for simulation environments
Collaborate with design teams to ensure developed models precisely match hardware behavior
Write, test, and document simulated electrical models according to development standards
Perform harmonic, power quality, power factor, load flow, transient stability and other related studies for HVDC and converter-based resources utilizing MATLAB/Simulink, or other similar software
Additional responsibilities the Electrical Engineer will be required to execute:
Resolve technical issues that may affect development schedule or overall performance of the system
Conduct and participate in technical exchange meetings and working groups
Develop and present technical and status briefings to Senior Leadership
Establish a supporting infrastructure and environment that uses models to inform decisions points and support collaboration and communication across all stakeholders
Skills you will need...
Minimum Requirements:
5+ years of experience with electrical power systems to include high-voltage AC-DC converters and other power electronic controlled systems
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited university or college, or related field
Experience modeling of pulsed/rectified power systems, including electrical and mechanical steady-state and dynamical characteristics in MATLAB/Simulink or another model-based development toolset
Demonstrated knowledge of current and emerging electrical system modeling and simulation techniques, solutions, and initiatives across government and commercial industries
Knowledge and understanding of dynamic electrical system modeling for real-time digital engineering environments such as Hardware-in-the-Loop (HWIL)
Advanced understanding in electrical theories – time/frequency domains, 3-phase AC, HVDC, signal rectification, power electronics, semiconductor characteristics, etc.
Strong understanding of electrical system requirements, design, analysis, verification, and validation activities
Familiarity with common industry instrumentation (transducers, thermocouples, strain gauges, flow meters, etc.)
Additional proficiencies in: Electrical Circuit Fundamentals (AC/DC), Transformers, Power Electronics, Controller Hardware, Physics Fundamentals, Programming (Python or MATLAB/Simulink or C++)
Ability to work independently or with a team, demonstrate strong initiative, and organize all tasking with minimal supervision
Familiarity with industry standards and guides (NESC, NERC, IEEE, IEC, and CIGRE)
Candidate must be a US Citizen and possess (or ability to obtain) a Secret Clearance
Desired skills/experience:
5+ years of experience with analysis/modeling/simulation of electrical power systems including multi-pulse silicon-controlled rectifiers (SCRs) and other high-voltage rectifying circuits
MS/PhD in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited university or college, or related field
Competent in using MATLAB/Simulink for physical system modeling, simulation and analysis.
Design experience using high performance digital control techniques for power converters
Previous experience within the field of power electronics controls and test facility applications
Professional Engineer (PE) registration
Possession of an active Secret Clearance
