Job Description

JOB TITLE: Paint Robot Technician                           

DEPARTMENT: Finishing       

REPORTS TO:  Paint Manager 

PRIMARY FUNCTION: Implement, support and troubleshoot all paint robot processes for everyday functions on the paint lines.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Focus on equipment optimization and up-time.
  • Own and improve the PM systems to support up-time.
  • Optimize paint robot programs to maximize paint transfer efficiency.
  • Visually inspect parts being painted in the booths and correct any paint application issues.
  • Assist and provide production support including training, developing work and technical standards and other related process activities to drive quality-based initiatives.
  • Assist in the development and maintaining of systems that analyze and identify defects and determine root causes. Assist in implementation of corrective actions. Utilize SPC and/or quality based tools to evaluate effectiveness of corrective actions and direction of trends.
  • Assist in maintaining color masters, approvals and inspection results for review.
  • Assist in maintaining certifications, SPC data, Supplier Performance Reports and evidence files for supplier control in the color lab.
  • Assist in maintaining X-rite information for tracking of color assurance.
  • Assist in coordinating trials as required for process/product improvement.
  • Assist in control, documentation and certification of incoming paint and paint batches by releasing only approved paints and paint batches for production.
  • Interface with suppliers, production and customers in paint/process improvement.
  • Provide support with continuous improvement team activities.
  • Participates in formal improvement team activities. Supports all departmental and organizational improvement initiatives in order to achieve business objectives.
  • 70 – 85 % of time will be shop floor related.
  • Participate in IATF 16949-2016/ ISO 14001 activities or any other organizational certifications as needed
  • Other tasks as assigned by Supervisor/Manager.

  • Actively participate in health and safety training and demonstrate competency based on training received.
  • Participate actively in providing suggestions for the health and safety program improvement.
  • Know and implement regulatory compliance requirements in their work area.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Standing, sitting, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, use of hands to inspect parts, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms, talking and hearing.  Employee will occasionally lift and/or move product.  Developmental training will be defined by the Department Manager and could be in-house or external to the company.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to lead/train others
  • Safety and quality oriented.
  • High School diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Must pass Ishihara Color Test (Color Blindness) with a minimum score of 70.
  • Must pass the Color Acuity Test (Trays) with an average discrimination classification and an error score between 20 – 100.
  • Working knowledge of automated bell and robotic paint spray applications on plastic parts.
  • Working knowledge of manual spray applications of 2K paints on plastic parts.
  • Working knowledge of electrostatic paint applications.
  • Technical knowledge of proportionate mixing and automated fluid delivery equipment including P-Mix and RCS.
  • Computer skills; proficient with Microsoft Office
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written), organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to establish and reach work goals.
  • Working understanding of X-Rite operation.
  • Requires considerable judgment and knowledge of paint applications.
  • Able to work any shift.
  • Ability to travel, possibly overnight (approx. >5% of the time).
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.

TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:

Mandatory training will be conducted with the required time and will include SBBP (Bloodborne Pathogens), SHCP (Contingency Plan), SHMI (Hazardous Material Information System), and SLHW (Hazardous Waste).  Developmental training will be defined by the Department Manager and could be in-house or external to ABC/INOAC.
