Job Summary

The Global Strategic EH&S Leader is responsible developing, deploying, and leading the strategic safety strategy for over 100 global manufacturing sites with approximately 10,000 associates. The position reports to the VP, EHS&Q and manages a global team of Regional EH&S Managers.

The position is 95% safety and health and 5% environmental compliance.

The position requires travel up to 15%.

The ideal candidate resides in NE Ohio or is willing to relocate.

Essential Functions

* Responsible for creating the global strategic and tactical direction for Avient's safety improvement initiatives and programs.

* Lead the implementation of global programs designed to reduce and ultimately minimize risk in EH&S areas (injuries/illnesses, industrial hygiene, non-compliance to governmental and Avient standards, environmental impairment, etc.).

* Effectively recruit, hire, develop/train and manage/lead EH&S professionals both directly in their team, and in a matrixed, global environment to achieve strategic objectives in a continuous improvement environment.

* Understand and monitor regional and global trends in EH&S performance, including safety incidents and/or environmental performance.

* Keep abreast of applicable EH&S regulations globally, and implement systems designed to ensure compliance.

* Manage various corporate programs designed to assess, monitor and control global EH&S risks, such as auditing, internal reporting and metrics collection.

* Develop, implement and oversee appropriate metrics, including external benchmarks where applicable, to enable continuous performance improvement and target world-class performance.

* Manage through a team, and in close collaboration with the business units globally and regionally, the various technical programs implemented by Avient to deliver continually improving EH&S performance.

* Oversee various global EH&S reporting efforts, work product and schedules to facilitate the internal communication of status and health of EH&S programs, initiatives and performance. Responsible for the professional appearance and content, commensurate with strategic direction.

* Manage various consultants' technical work and budgets to support Avient's EH&S programs and financial requirements.

* Develop, monitor, and control departmental operating budgets.

Education and Experience

* Bachelor's degree in EHS, engineering or related field.

* 10+ years' experience in EH&S in a manufacturing or chemical environment

* 5+ years' experience leading a team

* 5+ years of experience leading a corporate safety program

* Global leadership experience in a high performing organization is preferred

* Strong communication and leadership skills required

* Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) preferred
