Job DescriptionPosition Summary:
The Powertrain Test Engineer will work at PACCAR's Engine Test Laboratory (ETL) in Mount Vernon, Washington. Key responsibilities include running and managing powertrain testing activities for internal and external customers as well as serving as a leader and mentor for technical staff. This engineer will work in the ETL developing, testing, and validating PACCAR powertrain systems.
Job Functions / Responsibilities
Work daily with a team of experienced research engineers and project managers to conduct performance, durability, and emissions testing of heavy-duty on-highway powertrain systems to support program goals of European and North American PACCAR divisions
Support PACCAR's organizations by testing, evaluating, and validating new engine and aftertreatment hardware and software
Mentor ETL technical staff about cell and engine operation, emissions measurement practices, data analysis, and quality validation
Identify and implement processes to improve the quality and efficiency of powertrain testing, emissions measurement, and data processing in the ETL
Operate heavy-duty part 40 CFR Part 1065 test cells with raw emissions measurements
Work with ETL team to perform facility and software upgrades for compliance with 40 CFR Part 1065
Use hands-on experience to troubleshoot engine, powertrain and test cell controls and mechanical malfunctions
Work with PACCAR colleagues to align EU and US powertrain testing facilities and procedures
Create reports (both PowerPoint and Word) summarizing assigned tasks and data collected
Required Qualifications & Skills
BS degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Computer, Automotive, or related engineering degree
Minimum 3 years work experience performing powertrain testing
Knowledge of diesel engine and exhaust aftertreatment system operation and control systems
General understanding of 40 CFR Part 86, 1036, 1037, and 1065
Ability to work with ETL technician staff, fostering teamwork and employee development
Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team
Excellent organizational and communication skills
Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple tasks
Preferred Qualifications & Skills
MS degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Computer, Automotive, or related engineering degree
Test cell experience performing heavy-duty on-highway engine development
Experience performing engine or exhaust aftertreatment calibration
Proficiency using AVL test cell automation systems and data analysis (PUMA and CONCERTO)
Experience using engine control software such as ATI Vision, CALTERM, dSpace
