Job Description:

Job Summary:  Generally responsible for cleaning of all buildings and common areas of the campus and in assisting with repairs and maintenance of the College.

This position is for the Troy campus; Tuesday through Friday, 2:30 PM to 11:00 PM and Saturday 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists with general repairs and maintenance as required by the Group Leader or Senior Director
  • Cleans and maintains cleanliness of all areas used by college community
  • Collects and disposes of trash and debris
  • Utilizes chemicals and equipment in a safe/compliant manner
  • Clear pathways and parking lots of snow using shovels and/or equipment as assigned
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by the Group Leader or Senior Director
  • May include one or more of the following:
    • Delivery of merchandise from shipping/receiving area
    • Assisting with the grounds upkeep
    • Assisting skilled workers in the area of carpentry, painting, masonry or electrical

DUTIES:

  • Assist in some aspects of building repair including changing light bulbs, fuses, and ballasts
  • Replace window shades, light painting, assist in grounds as needed
  • Sweeps, mops and scrubs, strips floors, stairs and other surfaces
  • Vacuums and spot cleans carpets
  • Cleans and restocks lavatories
  • Collects trash and debris and places in designated collection area for removal by Waste Collector
  • Replaces liners in wastebaskets and trash containers
  • Cleans stoves, microwaves and refrigerators as directed
  • Cleans or dusts glass and other exposed surfaces including walls, window sills, cases, phone booths, door trim, chalkboards and furniture
  • Sweeps porches, steps and sidewalks to clear debris and snowfall and applies ice melt as required
  • Reports all hazardous conditions to the appropriate supervisor especially as it relates to snow removal
  • Removes snow as requested by supervisor
  • Reports items in need of repair to the appropriate supervisor
  • Maintains equipment in clean, usable condition
  • Uses cleaning chemicals in a responsible manner
  • Ensures chemicals are safely and properly stored after each use and that correct labels are applied
  • Moves furniture, supplies, and miscellaneous equipment as directed
  • Maintains floor finishes
  • In emergency situation, may be directed to clean up spills, floods, and other related items
  • All other duties related to custodial work as assigned

This is a 12-month position with a starting wage of $16.00 per hour for 40 hours per week.


Requirements:

  • At least 1 year experience in housekeeping general building repair, maintenance
  • Must be able to follow oral and written instructions
  • Must be able to push and lift and carry objects up to 51 lbs without assistance
  • Must be able to read instructions and safety rules, write sentences, communicate verbally and follow instructions
  • Must be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide
  • Must be able to walk, stoop, bend, crouch, sit, kneel, climb and crawl
  • Valid NYS driver's license is required
