Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Instructor

Hours of Work: M-F, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm

PURPOSE
Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Instructor to join Generations Southeast. The CDL Instructor will deliver comprehensive training programs to individuals seeking to obtain their commercial driver's license.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
Reports To: Generations Southeast Manager
Supervises: N/A
Liaison To: Internal, Regional, State, and Local Partners
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Conduct classroom instruction covering topics such as vehicle operation, safety regulations, and federal and state laws governing commercial driving.
- Provide hands-on training in various commercial vehicles, including tractor-trailers, buses, and other specialized vehicles.
- Demonstrate safe driving techniques and procedures to students, emphasizing defensive driving practices and accident prevention.
- Administer written and practical exams to assess student proficiency and readiness for obtaining their CDL.
- Develop and maintain training materials, including lesson plans, presentations, and instructional videos.
- Monitor student progress and provide constructive feedback to facilitate learning and skill development.
- Stay informed about changes in regulations and industry standards related to commercial driving and incorporate updates into training curriculum as necessary.
- Collaborate with other instructors and staff to ensure consistency and effectiveness in training delivery.
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance, performance, and certification

Spending Authority: Charge accounts for maintenance and fuel.

NECESSARY SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong understanding of commercial driving regulations and safety protocols.
- Ability to adapt teaching methods to accommodate diverse learning styles.
- Patience, professionalism, and a passion for helping others succeed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (education, experience, skills)
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements (e.g., Class A, Class B, passenger, hazmat).
- DOT Medical Card indicating physical fitness for commercial driving.
- 5 years of experience as a commercial driver, with a clean driving record.
- 1 year experience as a CDL instructor or similar role preferred.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (education, experience, skills)
- Additional certifications in driving instruction.
UNUSUAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OR RESTRICTIONS
The majority of work is performed in a professional office setting and is generally sedentary, requiring routine walking, standing, bending, and carrying of items weighing less than 40 lbs. Travel on small aircraft or ferry may be required.
