The incumbent is responsible for carrying out assigned administrative and clerical functions necessary to assist the organization in the performance of its responsibilities.
The incumbent maintains the organizational reference books and materials, updating and annotating as necessary to reflect changes in policies or procedures. Alerts supervisor regarding policies and procedures which are unclear or are creating problems, and recommends changes to effect efficient operation of the organization.
The incumbent prepares administrative reports for use by the organizations director and/or staff members, performing any required research and coordinating input from sources in and outside of the office.
Handles a wide variety of administrative duties which may include but are not limited to: arranging for office space and equipment, arranging conferences and meetings assuring all background material is provided, handling travel related paperwork, developing and using tracking and accountability procedures to document budgetary and procurement matters creating and maintaining an up-to-date and efficient filing system, handling personnel related matters as assigned, and monitoring time and attendance records.
Receives visitors and answers in-person or telephone inquiries regarding the organization's mission, exercising a high level of discretion and tact.
Controls and prepares correspondence using office automation equipment and appropriate software.
Composes routine correspondence in own or supervisor's name.
Reviews outgoing correspondence for completeness, grammar, spelling, and conformance with office procedure and instructions. Assures that Congressional and other sensitive correspondence is handled appropriately.
Provides advice and guidance to lower grade clerical staff.

In order to be deemed as qualified, candidates must meet the Pathways Recent Graduate requirements and in addition must have one year of specialized experience which is equivalent to at least the GS-6 grade level in the federal service. Specialized experience is defined as follows:
