Essential Job Functions

  • Provides general information to the public regarding real and personal property tax over the phone, internet, and in person.
  • Responsible for receiving, accounting, and recording payment transactions relative to property tax receipts from individual taxpayers, lending institutions, escrow and title companies.
  • Reads and interprets critical taxpayer payment histories and arranges tax information in logical sequence of events to resolve discrepancies and inquiries.
  • Calculates interest and penalties.
  • Responds to tax related questions from other County employees or the public both orally and in writing.
  • Maintains files and documents containing taxpayer information per established policies, procedures and retention schedules.
  • Reviews incoming and outgoing computer data for accuracy, completeness and quality.
  • Explains policies, procedures and laws in order to respond to more difficult and complex taxpayer inquiries directly related to the duties performed.
  • May process tax lien payments.
  • Researches and reconciles tax overpayments to ensure accuracy.
  • Cross trains in other Treasury Department positions as needed.
  • Applies refunds to accounts to reconcile tax charges.
  • May process split billings by reviewing and analyzing parcel history involving splits and combines, ownership changes and identifying and reconciling errors.
  • May review subordinate staff work for completeness and correct or reject as necessary to ensure daily work assignments are accurate.
