Job Summary General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI), an affiliate of General Atomics, is a world leader in proven, reliable remotely piloted aircraft and tactical reconnaissance radars, as well as advanced high-resolution surveillance systems.

We have an exciting opportunity for an Integrated Wire Harness Design Engineer to join our GA-ASI division, supporting all GA-ASI product lines, sitting in Poway, CA. In this role you will be taking cabling schematics and developing wire harness assemblies. This opportunity will provide you with both computer aided design experience, and on the floor cable harness integration experience.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Responsible for generating 3D models of cable routing for electrical integration of avionics modules and payloads into unmanned air vehicle systems.
  • Responsible for determining optimal cable length for installations, generating routing details, installation documentation, and schematic documentation.
  • Responsible for integration tests to verify functional operation.
  • Responsible for generating test fixtures and test procedures for system level test.
  • Responsible for evaluating and performing engineering change requests as required.
  • Interface with electrical, mechanical, structural, and project engineers to establish integrated electrical cable designs into aircraft and ground control stations and insure proper cable support.
  • Interface with design and drafting personnel to support cable detail design and drawing release process.
  • Interface with cable production personnel to clarify drawings and improve drawings.
  • Applies innovative approaches to resolving unusual or complex engineering problems at task and project levels.
  • Applies engineering knowledge to analyze, investigate and resolve assigned engineering problems at a task and project level.
  • Develops appropriate documentation of findings and implemented solutions, and communicates results to project engineering staff.
  • Responsible for observing all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.
  • Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.

Job Qualifications:
  • Typically requires a bachelors degree, masters degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; four or more years of experience with a bachelors degree or two or more years of experience with a masters degree. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
  • Must have a basic understanding of engineering concepts, principles, and theory.
  • Experience with schematics, 3D CAD, and cabling applications is highly desirable.
  • Experience leading a team of engineers throughout a design project is highly desirable.
  • Experience with SAE-AS50881, and IPC-620 standards is desired.
  • Experience with the electrical cable integration in an aircraft environment is desired.
  • Demonstrates the ability to follow and apply engineering knowledge, adapt standard techniques, and utilize the required diagnostics, tools and equipment, while ensuring safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Understands engineering concepts, principles, codes and theory.
  • Experience demonstrating a broad application of those concepts and expanding knowledge of principles, concepts, theory, and practices in related technical specialties.
  • Must be able to develop, communicate, and apply new concepts in an evolving environment.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance is required.

Salary:$81,080 - $141,650
