About the Job



The University of Minnesota's Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences is seeking a Board Certified / Board Eligible Adult Psychiatrist to fill an Academic Track faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. The position consists of:

* 0.80 clinical FTE serving as an outpatient psychiatrist with supervision of residents, medical students, and individual patient care. A primary location for this role is the Community University Health Care Center (CUHCC) for 0.6 FTE and inpatient clinical attending for the academic adult units for 0.2 FTE.

* 0.20 academic FTE to support the missions of the University and medical school.

The exact roles to be filled and the amount of aFTE allocated will depend on the successful candidate's background, experience, skills, and qualifications. Role Description:

Provide professional psychiatric adult outpatient services for the University of Minnesota teaching locations. Work with the outpatient team and clinical leadership to provide evidence-based outpatient services. Work collaboratively with leadership to achieve the missions of clinical, education, and research. Partner with administrative leadership to maintain and constantly improve high-quality, patient-centered care. Lead by example and engage learners and staff in creating a positive work environment that values excellence and teamwork and continually strives to exceed patient and family expectations.

Reporting Relationships:

1. Primary reporting relationship to the Adult Mental Health Division Director.
2. Clinical care reports to the Medical and or Mental Health Directors of the clinical locations, which includes CUHCC

Performance Metrics:

1. Attend provider meetings and other faculty meetings as determined necessary.
2. Evaluations by residents and medical students that reflect a positive learning environment.
3. Provide direct clinical services at 80% of cFTE.
4. Adhere to the university's policy of completing clinical documentation within 48 hours.
5. Demonstrate provision of high-quality clinical services by adhering to best clinical practices, ensuring Clinical Care Gaps are addressed, and following Best Practice Advisories.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

1. Excellence in Clinical Care
a. Develop and foster best practice standards for the unit:
i. Collaborate with appropriate operations leaders at all locations.
ii. Collaborate with proper academic team members.
iii. Develop care plans to streamline work expectations and clinical best practices.
iv. Ensure appropriate clinical documentation integrity.
v. Participate and mentor in quality improvement projects led by learners at CUHCC.
b. Develop clinical practice expectations:
i. Participation in professional society/academy/association.
ii Determine and apply the standard of care across units.
iii. Determine allowable alternatives.
c. Develop unit quality and patient safety indicators and benchmarks:
i. Identify barriers to delivering quality care and maximal patient access to care.
ii. Collaborate with appropriate operations leaders at all units or programs.
iii. Collaborate with appropriate academic departments.
iv. Provide direction to the team to conduct 1-2 quality studies per year to measure and improve outcomes that matter to patients
v. Monitor patient safety reporting with clinical lead and implement projects to improve safety for patients and care providers.

2. Research
a. Collaborate with and support research teams seeking to conduct research studies involving patients in programs.

3. Support ongoing development of clinical practices by developing and implementing clinical guidelines/protocols for patient care.
a. Review access reports; assist if necessary to remove barriers to patient access.
b. Review other quality of care metrics as indicated.

4. Meet regularly with the Medical Directors and appropriate clinical and administrative staff and participate in relevant unit-specific meetings.

5. Support coverage for other providers when needed. This includes providing evening and weekend coverage as delivered in the call schedule.

Qualifications



Required Qualifications:

- Graduate of an accredited ACGME/AOA Psychiatry residency training program
- Board certified or eligible in specialty and subspecialty
- BC/BE with the ABMS
- Licensed or ability to obtain Minnesota Board of Medical Practice Licensure
- Ability to obtain and /or maintain DEA certification for Minnesota
- Meet threshold criteria/qualifications for Credentialing and Privileges

Pay and Benefits



Pay Range:
This role is dually employed by the University of Minnesota and University of Minnesota Physicians. Salary at the University of Minnesota is dependent upon academic effort of the person hired, and begins at $55,000.
Clinical salary, aligned with clinical effort, is provided through University of Minnesota Physicians. Total salary is competitive with market and based on AAMC salary benchmarks.
