Ensure the safety and welfare of the citizens of Wicomico County and the State of Maryland.
Enforce the criminal, traffic and civil laws of Wicomico County, State of Maryland, and the United States.
Provide court security and transport prisoners.
Respond to emergency calls for service from public both emergency and routine.
Patrol assigned sector of responsibility to detect suspicious activity.
Serve warrants and civil documents.
Prepare legal documents, such as citations, statement of charges, application for warrants, etc.
Present evidence and give testimony in District and Circuit Courts.
Compile information, keep records, and prepare reports on enforcement activities.
Enforce traffic laws and issue citations and warnings.
Enforce criminal laws and make physical custody arrests.
Work with other law enforcement agencies on mutual problems and in emergency situations.
Investigate criminal complaints and conduct criminal investigations.
Investigate traffic accidents.
Perform security checks of private and public property.
Maintain all assigned equipment, uniforms, and vehicle.
Perform other law enforcement work as required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing. Able to read and interpret Maryland Criminal and
Traffic Laws and court papers. Ability to mediate disputes in a fair, impartial manner. Knowledge of agency
policies and procedures, and a demonstrated commitment to operate under those guidelines. Ability to exercise
decisiveness and a readiness to make decisions or render judgements. Ability to identify problems, develop
solutions, and implement corrective actions when appropriate. Ability to work with sensitive information and
maintain confidentiality. Ability to successfully complete required training and maintain Maryland Police
Training Commission certification.

Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED certificate recognized by the Maryland State Board of Education. Two years
experience as a Maryland law enforcement officer required. Maryland Police Training Commission
certification.
FLSA Status: Sworn

Physical and Environmental Conditions:
Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and
the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read,
talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls. Capability to effectively use and operate various items of office
related and specialized law enforcement equipment. Must meet the minimum physical requirements of the
Maryland Police Training Commission. Able to subdue/arrest wanted and sometimes combative individuals and
safely control prisoners.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possess a valid driver's license. Must successfully pass a background investigation, including a polygraph
examination, and a medical, physical, and psychological evaluation. Must meet Maryland Police Training
Commissions minimum physical requirements for sworn officers and maintain Maryland Police Training
Commission certification.
