Queen’s North Hawaii Community Hospital is a 35-bed rural acute care hospital located in Waimea (Kamuela), Hawaii Island. Scope of Service

 

The Medical/Surgical unit consist of 26 rooms; 25 private and one semi-private room.  Care is provided for pediatric and adult patients and all general Medical/Surgical patients which includes total joint procedures.

Responsibilities

 

JOB SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES:
•  Under the supervision of assigned supervisor/manager, provides high quality patient care, for ages infant-geriatrics including documentation in accordance with hospital policies/protocols and standards of care.
•  Based upon area of assignment, performs a variety of duties/responsibilities as noted below.  

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
•  Seeing, hearing, speaking, standing, walking, finger dexterity.
•  Continuous: stooping, forward reaching, handling.
•  Frequent: lifting up to 10 pounds, grasping.
•  Occasional: pushing/pulling maximum 50 pounds of force, lifting and carrying up to maximum 50 pounds, kneeling, crouching.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
•  Exposed to infection and disease-bearing specimens; infectious and contagious diseases; hazards of handling diseased organs and tissues; odorous chemicals and specimens; housekeeping cleaning agents/chemicals; explosive chemicals, gases and low level radiation.
•  Subjected to varying and unpredictable situations.
•  Subjected to many interruptions and long irregular hours.
•  Required Personal Protection Equipment: Eye protection, gown, mask, mask with face shield, non-sterile/sterile medical gloves, CAPR.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE:
•  Ability to read, write, speak and understand English, both orally and in writing.
•  Minimum one (1) year work experience as a Nurse Aide; or,
o  Diploma or certificate as a Nurse Aide.
o  Diploma or certificate as a Medical Assistant.
o  Diploma or certificate as an Emergency Medical Technician.
o  Diploma or certificate as Patient Care Technician.
o  Nursing student having completed a semester of clinical fundamentals; or,
o  RN with a foreign RN license with at least (1) year acute care experience.
•  Nursing Aide certification may be required depending upon area of assignment.
•  Current BLS certification.

EXPERIENCE:
•  Recent experience in an acute care setting preferred.
