JOB REQUIREMENTS: Position Description: Research Technologist I Purpose
A Research Technologist I position is immediately available in the E lab
at the Neuroscience Research Center at the Medical College of Wisconsin.
The lab investigates non-neural mechanisms of neurodegeneration in
normal aging, as well as genetic underpinnings of Alzheimer\'s
disease-related neurodegeneration, primarily using C. elegans
(roundworm) as a model system. The lab is seeking a motivated Research
Technologist to provide support for lab research through ordering and
maintaining supplies, preparing reagents/media, maintaining the
biological material database/libraries, and managing general lab
maintenance. Under the direction and supervision of the principal
investigator, the Research Technologist is also expected to execute
experiments/assays to generate data for research
projects/publications/grant applications. While experience in molecular
biology, molecular genetics, microscopy, and/or working with C. elegans
is welcome, hands-on training will be available for all required tasks.
Demonstrated proficiency in basic biology/chemistry lab techniques
(weighing, pipetting, making solutions/buffers, dilutions,
centrifugation, etc.) is required. Individuals with experience in
molecular biology (standard PCR, qPCR, plasmid design and construction)
are encouraged to apply. Primary Functions \* Prepare sterile buffers,
media, reagents, nematode culture (nutrient agar) plates and competent
cells for transformation etc. \* Execute assigned duties for ordering
and maintaining the supply of inventories. \* Manage and organize the C.
elegans strain/plasmid/primers/RNAi library collection in the lab. \*
Perform and assist in assigned assays, including but not limited to PCR,
qPCR, worm picking, worm genotyping, molecular cloning, microinjection
to generate transgenic animals, in vivo imaging using widefield and
confocal fluorescence microscopy, and quantification of
neurodegeneration phenotypes. \* Record and compile accurate records and
communicate summaries of experimental results. \* Assist with the
evaluation, interpretation and assessment of experimental data and
quality control of assays. \* Attend lab meetings with principal
investigator, graduate students, research staff, participate in
discussion, and present data as needed. \* Maintain lab records and
uphold safety regulations. \* Perform routine maintenance on specialized
equipment used in the lab. Communicate with vendors for troubleshooting
in case of malfunctioning. \* Oversee daily lab operation in the absence
