The Safety Supervisor provides support and leadership to the Hopewell Mill, to reduce the frequency and severity of occupational injuries and illnesses and to ensure sustainable compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations. 

 

 The opportunity: 

 The Health and Safety Supervisor has primary responsibility for assisting the Safety Manager and supporting Mill operations as needed and will report to the Safety Manager. 

 

 How you will impact WestRock: 

  • - Administers and model’s safety in his/her area of responsibility; participates in and supports the safety programs for the Mill; ensures compliance with all applicable OSHA and mill safety rules. 

  • - Fully focused and engaged in all aspects of designated responsibility 

  • - Aligns personal behaviors to WestRock’s values: Integrity, Respect, Accountability, and Excellence 

  • - Provides guidance to ensure compliance with all safety policies 

  • - Provides updates on safety items 

  • - Assists with the development and implementation of safety topics including but not limited to lockout, ergonomics, machine guarding, hazard communication and site security 

  • - Assists with new employee safety orientation program. 

  • - Assists with employee pedestrian, mobile equipment policy and training, LOTO and worker's compensation program. 

  • - Assists with medical emergencies and follow-up as instructed by the ERT Supervisor. 

  • - Assists with the company’s contractor safety program. 

  • - Assists with for emergency response to environmental, structural, and employee incidents. 

  • - Assists with the investigation of all incidents and injuries from initial report to closure. 

 

 What you need to succeed: 

  • - Bachelors’ degree in Safety or related field is desirable 

  • - A certified or associate safety professional status is desirable (CSP or ASP) 

  • - 2- 5 yrs. experience as a safety professional administering health and safety strategies and programs in a manufacturing operation (process industry experience preferred). 

  • - Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulatory programs is required, and Process Safety Management experience is preferred. 

  • - Ability to assign priorities in a fast-paced and changing environment. Must be able to make effective oral presentations to a wide range of audiences ranging from hourly employees to senior corporate executives and government agencies. 

  • - Confident in presenting training on various safety topics 

  • - Ability to communicate with all employees and effectively lead and direct others
