Milieu Management Assistant - Adult Inpatient Psych Program - Eve/Night

Location: York Hospital, York, PA
Schedule: Full Time

Full-time, Eve/Night - 7pm-7am - every third weekend & rotating holidays

36 hrs/2 wks

General Summary

Provides a safe, secure and therapeutic environment for, and responds to the needs of patients, employees, visitors and other customers of the Adult Inpatient Psychiatric Unit.

Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

  • Responds to emergency situations such as accidents, injuries, violent behavior or outbursts and safety hazards. Provides assistance, summons proper authorities and polices area to maintain order, safety and to protect patients, employees and visitors.
  • Participants in restraint of psychiatric patients under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or physician. Responds to inquiries for advice or assistance from employees, students, visitors and other customers.
  • Manages behavioral crises including 1:1 observation, redirection, physical restraint and team crisis interventions.
  • Monitors conduct of patients and visitors on the unit; Reports problems to the RN in charge.
  • Participates in room and safety checks on every shift under the supervision of an RN.
  • Assists with milieu management.
  • Awareness of behavioral management plans for acute patients in cooperation with treatment team recommendations.
  • Provides one-on-one intervention with patients who have a high risk for violence.
  • Reports safety and/or fire hazards or security violations.
  • Coordinates with outside law enforcement agencies and the legal system as necessary.
  • May assist in securing patient valuables or lost and found articles. Assists in maintaining logs of items received.
  • Employs all necessary equipment to include Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) during situations that are deemed unsafe and during interactions with precaution patients.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED Required

Work Experience:

  • Less than 1 year Relevant experience. Required
  • Behavioral, criminal justice, mental health, or social sciences experience. Preferred

Licenses:

  • Basic Life Support Upon Hire Required

Courses and Training:

  • Milieu management/de-escalation training. within 60 days Required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills.
  • Excellent human relations and oral/written communication skills.
