Classification Description Summary

Under general supervision, performs a variety of general technical duties in support of the City's reprographic operations and services; utilizes a variety of reprographics equipment in order to provide effective document reproduction services; staples, collates, folds, and prepares documents as assigned; and provides effective customer service at assigned counter area.

Essential Functions

The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.

Operate a variety of reprographics equipment in order to provide effective document reproduction services for customers including copiers, offset press, plate maker, paper drill, paper cutter, binding equipment, collator, 3-hole punchers, and power staplers.

Prepare, arrange, and mount illustrations according to client specifications; provide technical assistance to clients regarding reprographic capabilities and limitations; deliver finished materials to staff as required.

Prepare, fold, and sort bound copies, handouts, flyers, and other documents; check documents for appearance and clarity; prepare half-fold, tri-fold and z-fold documents both by hand and using assigned equipment.

Participate in cleaning and maintaining reprographics equipment; contact vendors for repairs as necessary.

Maintain an accurate inventory of reprographics materials; order replenishments as needed to perform assigned document production functions.

Maintain various files and records; maintain a work log of all jobs completed.

Perform related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

The following generally describes the knowledge and ability required to enter the job and/or be learned within a short period of time in order to successfully perform the assigned duties.

Knowledge of:
Operational characteristics of a variety of reprographics equipment.
Characteristics of various papers and inks.
Principles and procedures of record keeping and filing.
Office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers and applicable software applications.
Time, material, and labor cost estimating principles and practices used in reprographics.
Occupational hazards and standard safety practices.
Basic principles and practices of customer service.
Principles and practices of inventory control.

Ability to:
Perform a full range of reprographics work involving the use of independent judgment and personal initiative.
Produce graphic materials and documents according to established specifications.
Use and operate a variety of reprographics equipment required for the work in a safe and efficient manner.
Operate office equipment including computers and supporting applications.
Adapt to changing technologies and learn functionality of new equipment and systems.
Respond to requests from City staff and employees.
Design effective layouts for a variety of large documents.
Maintain an accurate inventory of reprographics supplies.
Estimate time, material, and labor costs for reprographic jobs.
Ensure adherence to safe work practices and procedures.
Work independently in the absence of supervision.
Plan and organize work to meet changing priorities and deadlines.
Work in a team based environment to achieve common goals.
Coordinate multiple projects and complex tasks simultaneously.
Meet the physical requirements to safely and effectively perform the assigned duties.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Education and Experience Guidelines - Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Education/Training:
Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.

Experience:
Two years of responsible clerical support experience including some reprographics experience.

Environment: Work is performed primarily in print shop setting; exposure to noise, dust, and ink.

Physical: Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in a print shop setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight; to operate reprographic and office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; to verbally communicate to exchange information; to see in the normal visual range with or without correction; to possess visual acuity for preparation of documents; and the ability to distinguish color.
