Job Description
As a representative of Syracuse University, the Assistant Director will seek to identify, attract, and enroll candidates for admission who contribute to Syracuse University’s mission. The assistant director will manage strategic recruitment initiatives with a specific focus on STEM outreach, including coordination of campus events and group visits, group travel, and support programs that engage and inform school counselors, community-based organizations, and other partners about academic offerings Syracuse University. In addition, the assistant director will act as a thought partner and strategic leader in the development strategic recruitment initiatives.
Education and Experience
  • Three (3+) plus years of experience in selective college admissions or a closely related role.
  • Bachelors degree required; masters preferred .
  • Valid US driver’s license.

  • Excellent relationship management skills. Ideal candidate will be comfortable working with all age groups, from prospective students to faculty, alumni and parents.

  • Attention to detail, organization, and the ability to manage multiple competing priorities.
  • Proficiency in data management and CRM systems.
  • Availability and willingness to travel within the US.
  • Availability and willingness to work in-person at the worksite.
  • Availability and willingness to cover on-campus events on evenings and weekends as necessary.
Responsibilities
  • Strategic and creative development and implementation of STEM initiatives, to include campus programming, group visits, consortium travel and other recruitment initiatives, as appropriate.
  • Communicate the value of a Syracuse University experience through presentations, interviews, and other recruitment events. 
  • Respond to email, phone, virtual and in person communication, i.e., daily activity to respond to prospective students, parents, families, and counselors.
  • Oversee group visit program including development of partnerships, specialized opportunities for pipeline program visitors, and strategic deployment of campus partners.
  • Assist the events team, as assigned, with the coordination and implementation of events related to campus/field programs, the University 100 Student Tour Guides, group visit requests and daily campus visits. 
  • Develop and execute STEM recruitment communications; respond to inquiries and manage outreach and follow-up, as appropriate.
  • Read applications and evaluate credentials for admission.
  • Recommend admission decisions in support of university enrollment goals and priorities.
  • Conduct evaluative interviews of prospective students.
