The division attendance officer will coordinate dropout prevention efforts and the promotion of good school attendance for the Halifax County Public School division.

• Meet and establish working relationships with all division school personnel, especially as it relates to attendance, discipline and academic performance
• Assist division schools in locating and enrolling students who are not enrolled, out-of-zone, and home-schooled involved.
• Contact potential dropouts to encourage and/or assist them in staying in school; assist in finding academic tutoring, counseling and opportunities in alternative programs.
• Partner with health and human service agencies and other agencies in the community to promote good attendance, improve academic performance, and reduce the dropout rate
• Implement community resources in dropout prevention/promote and encourage regular prompt attendance
• Develop and participate in a contact program for parents of students with excessive absences by telephone, correspondence, and/or home visits
• Assist parents or potential dropouts with enrollment in parenting skills programs
• File truancy reports and appear in court cases
• Collaborate with J & D Relations Court Service Unit to represent the school system in all cases of truancy and related juvenile crime
• File reports as required to the division superintendent, and the Department of Social Services ( ex: Learnfare-Tanf)
• Visit all Division schools at least twice per nine weeks
• Chair the Halifax County Interdisciplinary Team in cooperation/compliance with the J & D Relations Court System
• Make visits to student residences as duties, responsibilities, and request for support dictates ( ex: Special Education Department/Guidance Department)
• Visit P.A.C.E. ( Alternative Education Site) weekly to monitor and coordinate student services, etc. with the Administration and staff
