The College of Engineering and Computing at the University of South Carolina is continuing to expand its tenured and tenure-track ranks significantly. As part of this growth, the Department of Chemical Engineering seeks dynamic tenured and tenure-track faculty members for Fall 2024.

Applicants for the rank of Assistant Professor rank must possess a Ph.D. degree in chemical engineering or a related field by the time of appointment and demonstrate potential for excellence in teaching and research; applicants for the rank of Associate Professor and Full Professor must also have years of relevant academic experience commensurate with academic policy by the time of appointment, with a strong, sustained record of excellence in teaching and research.

We seek candidates whose expertise and approach aligns with both the core strengths of the Department, including especially experimental heterogeneous catalysis, as well as cross-cutting initiatives identified by the College. Successful candidates will be expected to develop and sustain an internationally recognized research program. The University is a partner in the management and operation of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL), with a goal of expanding collaborative research partnerships and developing the advanced workforce for SRNL; therefore, the Department is interested in applicants whose programs will support DOE priorities in energy security, national security, and sustainability broadly writ. In alignment with the University’s focus on applied AI, we are also interested in candidates who use AI to advance knowledge and discovery in their specific research field. Joint appointments with SRNL may be considered.
