Technical Lead, Pixel Display Software

  • Candidates will typically have 8 years of experience with software development in C++ and Java.
  • Typically 5 years of experience testing, and launching software products, and 3 years of experience with software design and architecture.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.
  • Candidates will typically have 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization.
  • Software development experience with C or Python.

About the job

Pixel System Software works closely with Android Platform, Pixel Hardware, gChips, and external partner teams to bring the best of Android to users on Google’s Pixel phones. Within Pixel System software, our display team is responsible for all things display for Pixel devices. Display software spans much of the on-device software stack, from bootloader drivers up to the Settings app, driving several hardware modules, from accelerators in Google Tensor (Google's in-house mobile System on Chip) through display panels.

The Google Pixel team focuses on designing and delivering the world's most helpful mobile experience. The team works on shaping the future of Pixel devices and services through some of the most advanced designs, techniques, products, and experiences in consumer electronics. This includes bringing together the best of Google’s artificial intelligence, software, and hardware to build global smartphones and create transformative experiences for users across the world.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of software engineers to drive complete development cycles of new Pixel display projects, from requirements and design through implementation and establishing test plans.
  • Develop the team’s infrastructure by implementing new systems in areas such as telemetry, on-device diagnostics, updatability, and apps.
  • Design and implement display domain features in Pixel and Android software stacks, such as variable refresh rate, color management and calibration, HDR, and image enhancement methods.
  • Collaborate closely with Android platform teams on enabling new generations of Pixel: SurfaceFlinger, display and graphics HALs, etc.
  • Develop in-depth expertise in display technologies and SoCs, and productize them in future Pixel devices.
