Maintenance Apprentice
About the Job
The Maintenance Apprentice is responsible for supporting the mechanics and manager in daily functional tasks and projects. This pertains to troubleshooting, diagnosing, and correcting equipment breakdowns and facility maintenance as required to support the achievement of the site's business goals and objectives. This position also performs mechanical repairs, and preventative maintenance to ensure the ongoing integrity and reliability of equipment to keep the plant operating safely and efficiently.
Complete preventive, corrective, and project work on manufacturing assets under guided supervision of senior maintenance staff members.
Assist in responding to downtime situations and be active in root cause analysis to identify common cause failures and implement permanent counter measures.
Be assigned special project work related to asset improvement, utilization, process improvement, machine controls system upgrades.
Read electrical and mechanical drawings, machine manuals, operation manuals.
Learn mechanical trouble shooting skills related to pumping, mixing, and conveying systems as well as extrusion systems, milling systems, and air flow systems.
Learn electrical trouble shooting skills related to 480 VAC power circuits, 120 VAC control circuits, 24 VDC control circuits, machine safety circuits, relay logic. Motor controls using three phase power with motor starters or VFD controls.
Assist with disassembly and overhaul of pumps, bearing assemblies, extrusion machines.
Use general shop tools and equipment that could include hydraulic bearing press, drill press, welding equipment, general machining using a mill or lathe.
Performs all necessary inspections, adjustments and replacement of parts while performing scheduled PM
Operate shop tools and equipment as skill level will permit
Assists in electrical projects and performs minor electrical repairs
Understands basic electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic theory.
Operates and maintains auxiliary systems such as solvent still, dust collector and thermal oxidizer.
Maintains and services a range of building systems such as lighting, compressed air, Nitrogen generation, water and sewer, etc.
Assists in the installation of new plant equipment
Key member of the Fire Response Team.
Assists other departments as needed
Knows and willingly practices all safety rules and procedures and participates in the plant safety program including the wearing of appropriate safety apparel.
Must be certified by the Company to operate forklift and equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
Perform all job duties as assigned and directed by supervision or management that may not be listed on this job description.
Perform housekeeping duties as assigned and keeps area and equipment clean.
Properly handle hazardous waste as part of manufacturing operations, maintenance, raw material handling, and clean-up activities, in order to protect personnel, property and the environment.
Follow all EHS (Environmental Health and Safety) regulations and guidelines, including RCRA (Resource Conservation and Recovery Act).
Maintain ISO 14001, and ISO 9001 certifications.
Minimum Requirements:
Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age
Must be legally authorized to work in the country of employment without needing sponsorship for employment work visa status now or in the future
Must be a participant in the Columbus State Community College MMWS Apprenticeship Program
