OVERVIEW

UES, a Blue Halo Company is seeking a Data Scientist/Bioinformaticist to support the 711th Human Performance Wing at Air Force Research Laboratory. The successful candidate will bring the ability to determine how changes to biological systems bring about biochemical and physiological changes through computational methods.  The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in biology coupled with strong programming expertise in Python and/or R, and experience in data extraction from external sources, data cleaning, big data analytics, and database development and management. In addition to technical expertise, a successful candidate will be a self-starter, independent, work well in a team environment, and welcome the challenge of implementing novel modeling approaches. US citizenship is required for this position.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Typical job requirements will include developing and refining analytic and data visualization tools and automated process workflows; perform big data analytics, including, but not limited to, descriptive statistics, trend modeling, dose-response modeling, statistical analyses, and predictive algorithm development; and curate and expand existing data requirements.

WHAT QUALIFICATIONS YOU WILL BRING

 

  • A minimum of a Master's degree in Applied Math, Statistics, Engineering or related field with 2+ years of relevant experience

OR

  • A doctorate degree in Applied Math, Statistics, Engineering or related field
  • Demonstrable expertise in Python or R.
  • Prior experience in data science, database management, big data analytics, statistics, dose-response or trend modeling is required. Thesis work can count towards meeting this requirement.
  • Experience in technical writing and scientific presentations
  • This position is working within a government facility and requires U.S. Citizenship

Preferred Qualifications:

  • SQL/Git experience
  • Experience in machine learning, systems biology, Monte Carlo Simulation, toxicology/pharmacology, and/or chemical pharmacokinetics (PBPK, IVIVE, HTTK)
  • Fundamental knowledge in chemicals, systems biology or physiology
