- Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Evaluates patients for their eligibility to participate in the program (i.e., interviews for relevant facts concerning the client’s social, occupational, functional and medical status) - Develops individually-tailored treatment plans.
- Assesses the learning needs of patients regarding proactive self-care strategies (i.e., upper extremity exercisesbreathing, retraining exercises, diet modification, performance to bronchial hygiene, use of metered-dose inhalers, use of hand-held nebulizer, patient compliance with prescribed home therapy). Individual instructional sessions are scheduled as needed.
- Records vital signs and pertinent observations in the patient charts during each class meeting.
- Ensures that patients are exercised in accordance with established protocol
- Assesses the patient before, during and after exercise (i.e., vital signs, subjective complaints).
- Recognizes and anticipates changes in patient clinical status and recommends/facilitates appropriate follow-up
- Acts appropriately should a patient experience adverse reaction to therapy
- Responds to “Code Blue” and may initiate CPR in accordance with hospital and departmental policy and procedure.
Qualifications
Educational Requirements:
Associate Degree required
Bachelor's degree in science in nursing - state accredited program preferred
Licenses:
- RN State license required
- BLS certification required
Experience:
- 1 year acute care experience in specialty area
- Ability to interpret and apply knowledge of State, Federal and Agency standards to comply with regulations
- Working knowledge of Nursing Practice Act, The Joint Commission and other state and local regulatory requirements.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills. And has full command (verbal and written) of the English language.
- Knowledgeable and proficient in the use of health care technology within specialty area.
- Demonstrates commitment to customer service and an ability to meet the needs and expectations of patients and health care colleagues.
- Ability to analyze qualitative and quantitative information for decision support.
- Must be able to manage competing priorities, while being extremely adaptable and flexible and maintaining a positive work environment
- Previous experience in Adult Fitness programs. Prior experience in designing exercise prescriptions.
- Demonstrates a commitment to customer service and an ability to meet the needs and expectations of patients and health care colleagues.
Physical Demands:
- Able to perform moderate lifting.
- Able to sit, stand and walk for prolonged periods of time.
- Able to read papers and online documents.
- Able to operate standard office equipment.
- Able to exercise physical ability and perspective acuity to satisfactorily perform essential job functions.
