Position Summary:

Lakeside is a historic community on the shores of Lake Erie offering an abundance of spiritual opportunities, educational lectures, cultural arts performances, and recreational activities for families and groups of all sizes. We are dedicated to nurturing the mind, body, and spirit through our Four Pillars (Religious Life, Education, Arts, and Recreation & Wellness). As one of the Four Pillar Directors, you will be responsible for the administration and operation of the Recreation & Wellness Department. This Position focuses on the program development for recreation, health and wellness, facility management, budget management, staff management, and seasonal operations for Recreation & Wellness programming initiatives and supporting community groups, SOS, LWBS, and Tennis and Pickleball Association.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

·       Develop and implement indoor/ outdoor wellness and recreation programming that supports spiritual and physical wellbeing. This includes preparing instructor contracts, managing and scheduling events, lectures, classes, obtaining necessary equipment, room assignments, and developing year-round curriculum and programming initiatives.

·       Collaborate with Programming Department’s Four Pillars to plan and implement engaging programming following strategic and tactical plans for year-round experiences.

·       Establish and maintain relationships with the health and wellness communities and providers (i.e. Silver Sneakers, Magruder Hospital, local wellness businesses, schools, etc.)

·       Provide direction, management and supervision over the North Waterfront & Parks Campus and South Athletic & Wellness Campus. This includes working with area Managers, Supervisors, and staff, scheduling classes, and maintaining operations required to support programs and facilities.

·       Work with department Managers or Supervisors to implement daily safety inspection of all recreation areas and work with Security and Maintenance on any emergencies.

·       Coordinate and staff all Recreation daily operations, special events including, but not limited to the 5K Raccoon Run, tournaments, sports clinics, sailing races and regattas, etc.

·       Collaborate with Marketing and Guest Services in creating content and communicating Recreation and Wellness Program details and schedules in a timely manner.

·       Develop, implement, and monitor registration processes for all recreation Programs and Events using ACTIVE software, or other online/in-person registration platforms.

·       Develop effective system and process for evaluating programs and facilities including program participation and feedback, outcomes, and guest information.

·       Conduct a thorough annual evaluation of recreational and wellness programming to assist with future budget, program, staff, and facilities planning.

·       Oversee recruiting and hiring of seasonal staff, and those positions requiring specialized training, certificates and/or licenses. (i.e. sailing instruction, lifeguarding, court athletics, etc.)

·       Implement staff training/safety requirements and schedule annual in-services and training sessions for Recreation & Wellness supervisors and staff. Oversee mandatory certifications and licenses required for supervisors and staff.

·       Conduct weekly supervisors’ meetings with supervisors of each recreation and wellness area. (Predominantly during the summer months)

·       Evaluate departmental staff and instructors. Develop and implement expectations and guidelines with department Managers, Supervisors, Lakeside staff, and Human Resources.

·       Lead pre-season staff in opening facilities and coordinate or assign pre and post season maintenance work orders and contracts for recreation and wellness facilities and grounds.

·       Demonstrate ability to work collaboratively with volunteer corps, Lakeside administration and board members.

·       Serve as liaison and collaborate with the Society of Salts (SOS), Lakeside Wooden Boat Society, Tennis & Pickleball Association, and Shuffleboard Club for program development and implementation, and provide operational and staff support for all events.

·       Manage all operational supply and equipment purchasing for Recreation & Wellness.

·       Maintain budget tracking for all departments and reconcile daily cash accounting for all income producing cost centers. (mini-golf, sailing/waterfront rentals, Tennis and Pickleball, and all lessons, tournament fees, etc.)

·       Contract and schedule specialized vendor services for contract maintenance, preventative and emergency repair at Recreation facilities (i.e. treatment for swim area, Fitness equipment, pool systems, etc.)

·       Secure state and county licenses and permits for pool and waterfront area, and other required areas of operation in recreation and wellness facilities.

·       Manage works orders, logistics, and planning for upgrades, maintenance, and operational needs of recreational and wellness facilities.

·       Available to work outside the normal schedule, including early morning, evening, and weekend engagements.

·       Ensures customer relations and satisfaction are of highest priority with all staff.

·       Ad hoc duties as needed and assigned by supervisor.

 

Qualifications:

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include the supervision of seasonal staff and volunteers. Direct communication required with the Vice President of Programming, Chief Operations Officer, and key Lakeside staff.

Education and/or Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in a Health Science, Recreation Management, or Wellness-related degree with an emphasis in Health and Wellness, or 5 years related experience or training. Previous management experience beneficial.

Language Skills:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.

Mathematical Skills:

 

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, portions, percentages and to apply the basic math concepts. Keep accurate records for payroll, class fees, rentals, supply purchases and reimbursements.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Physical Demands:

 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hand to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, climb or balance; specific vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Ability to set up and tear down

events when needed, which may include lifting 20-30 lbs. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet, cold, humid, hot, very hot, conditions and may be required to work outdoors.
